They have a program for maintaining your weight too. Same program, more points (if that's the route you took) basically.

Serenarian, Turtle: Congrats on reaching your goals!

Coren: Way to go! That's an awesome amount of weight reduction so early!

I'm on the WW board (UK) under Ferada if anyone finds me. I think they are different boards in the UK, LadyCelt - not sure there is a spiritual board on this one.

I used to do yoga but I have lost my living room floor space as I have a 7 month old baby crawling around on it now. I'm still breastfeeding, which is helping with my weight loss though, so that's good, but my BMI is still 30. I have a short term goal of getting rid of 20 lbs so I can be in a medically healthy zone but my ultimate goal is to reduce my weight by 40 lbs.

I am totally in agreement with Lady Nimue on the wording of weight loss versus weight reduction..... I do not wish to have any weight lost, then found again, so I shall endeavor to simply reduce my weight in the future, not lose it. It is true, though, isn't it... if you "lose" something, that implies you might want it back at some point, and I don't. Good point, Lady Nimue.

Hello all,

just popping to share my good news.

Having re-joined ww on 3 January 2008, I had my first weigh-in last night and have reduced my weight (gladly reduced, I don't want it back!) by 6lbs.

A good start, long may it continue.

Congrats Severina! That's a great start! I gained 3.5 lbs over Christmas, and my next weigh in is Monday, so I'm hoping to have lost it all again. I think part of the gain, besides eating
sweeties, is that it's ttotm. Then I have to get back on track.

I have noticed I use up a lot of points drinking tea. I do drink a lot of tea with soy milk in it, but I am having difficulty giving up my vice. It's only decaf tea, but I love it.

Do they help people, who eats to little? :-(

Hi Salomea,

The WW system is designed to make sure you don't eat too much, OR too little. If you don't eat enough, your metabolism slows down to conserve energy. As long as you stay within your target "points" range, this shouldn't happen. :)

Thank you. So maybe I should look around for WW in my region... (btw I wouldn't mind if my metabolism would slow down, contrary to you, who look like a woman I can (again) count every rib on me). It's just bit scary to find yourself only slice of bread for whole day (happened thrice). :-(

If you can't find a real time meeting in your area, you can join online-only and track points yourself with their e-tools. That's what I do. I know myself and I know I'd hate having to go to meetings week after week. :)

From what you've told me, I'm not certain is WW is for you. I mean, it wouldn't hurt to try it if the act of tracking points helps you to remember to eat more regularly. There are certainly days I'm not hungry and don't eat all my points, but it generally averages out over the course of a week.

If you're under your healthy BMI (body mass index) I wonder if WW will advise you to see a physician to make sure there's not an underlying health condition going on?

 Me too!!! I'm stuck in a rut. I am trying hard to lose just 3 more pounds to reach milestone #1 of 7 lbs and just can't seem to! I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. And lately I'm at a point where I wonder why I'm bothering as my efforts aren't paying off at the moment. I'm listed on WW as "Ferada".

Sorry it took me a while to reply, haven't been online in ages!

Hey Debbi,

don't give up! Of course it's worth it. Apart from all the health benefits, just think of how good you felt when you reduced your weight by the first few lbs.

I have just come back from my weigh-in.

2 weeks ago, I ate too much, didn't count any points and so didn't go to my meeting. Because I hadn't been, I carried on the same way. I made myself go to the meeting last week to see how bad the damage was. I was mortified.......... I had gained 2lbs. :-(

Since last Thursday I have been good as gold and when I jumped onto the scales tonight.......................... I have reduced by 6lbs :yay:

So, even with the blip, I have reduced by 17 and a half lbs since January 3rd.

Don't give up Debbi, you can do this.

Hi Severina! Thanks for the encouragement. It came at a pivotal moment! The bit quoted above is what I do sometimes too! I get complacent, stop weighing my food or tracking it, and then invariably over eat. I'm breastfeeding, so the fact that I still gain a pound when I do that is very very bad! And it's always biscuits. They are my weakness. For a few weeks in a row I gained a pound, lost a pound and then gained that pound back again. But the week before last, I lost a pound, and last week I lost 1.5!!

I've made my first milestone today of 7lbs lost since the first of November! Yay! Aside from being a bit better tracking my food (though admittedly I didn't track all weekend), the biggest change I made is have fruit smoothies for breakfast instead of cereal.

Hope everyone else is doing well too!

Yeah, well I am not doing weight watchers, just trying to eat sensibly. I have so far shed a few pounds, but it is similar to what you describe, Debbie. However, noticing why and what you eat that drives you off the path is a good first step. I have also found that there is a reason why we need that comfort food, and that reason has very often something to do with our personal and emotional state. For example: I just love wine and beer, and have gotten used to having a glas or two in the evenings. I use it as a gratification: The day is over, I can relax, and I reward myself with the wine. So it is linked to relaxation and well-being. In the last few weeks, I have started lent and have not had a drop of alcohol since. I am not addicted, so I have no problem with that. However, I sometimes find myself sitting there, thinking how much I would enjoy a glass of wine now, and feeling stressed out because wine and relaxation go hand in hand. In order to beat that, I have to find other ways to reward myself and relax, and that is what I am working on.

In the long run, it makes me shed even more weight once I stop drinking those empty calories, but I can only do it after dealing with my emotional state...

One of the biggest hurdles I face in my weight reduction challenge is that I quit smoking over 5 years ago and I gained all this excess weight since then, so I can relate to the wine=relaxation thing. I have found that I tend to nibble at those times during the when I smoked most. The hardest part is just not doing that. But a small change every week or two seems to help.

Aylyn, could you have something instead of wine like an herbal tea? Or a sugar free juice?

Best of luck!

I am trying, but it is just not the same. Which is why I observe how I react to lent, at which stage I get the craving and how I deal with it. Gives valuable insights...

I have also found that things which are upsetting to me invariably (and without active thought) send me to the fridge. For example: In a meditation I hit an uncomfortable thruth, and the next thing I know is I am looking into the fridge for something to eat. Cannot find anything, as I usually make sure there is no comfort food around, and since I am not really hungry, none of the stuff appeals to me. It is then that I notice how much I deal with my inner demons by eating things...

I have come to accept that I have an emotional hole in my soul that is currently filled by food. Once I have dealt with it, I will be able to eat less, and shed more weight :D

Of course, having a metabolism that holds every calorie sacred and makes sure it is kept does not help

Hello, I just found this thread. I have worked with WW since half January ... as I really needed more healthy eating habits and loosing some weight. When the dad of my son asked me if I was pregnant again, ... this was a huge motivation factor to loose weight. Since then, I have lost over 7 kilograms, that is about 14 lbs (but, I am loosing motivation now). I never went to meetings, only worked with an internet based calculator, and the little book I bought several years ago.

The best thing for me, is that in those months, I have learned to eat healthier, and I just hope I can turn that in a habit.

That's awesome! Congrats on your weight loss! 14 is quite a lot! I found WW was great for helping me eat healthier too. I think I'm one of those people that needs to be reminded what a healthy balanced diet is, every so often.

I've managed to lose 4 or 5 lbs in the last couple of weeks. The main change is my activity level because I've returned to work and it's a physical job.

hi :hiya:

i have joined weight watchers now and i have lost a total of 41/2 lbs in four weeks. i had lost a bit of weight before joining WW and can now get into clothes that are a size 18 instead of size 20 :) .

one good tip that i discovered is that if you exercise you gain extra points to use if you want to. i do an hours moderate exercise every day (yogalates) and gain an extra 3 points which i don't always use up during the week if you want you can save up these extra points for a special treat and i sometimes go out for a meal at the weekend with my hubby so i can still enjoy fish and chips :)

when i joined WW they gave me a card board points calculator and the exercise points calculator was on the back - the calculation of points is worked out on your weight and type of exercise. not sure how you go about checking this out on line though.

keep at it everyone.
