Hello Badger Bob , i changed Monday i think . Yes indeed in is a parping album . :shake:

Just finished another walking guide - 'The Ridgeway' by Nick Hill . (Trailblazer) . Not one to be read while feeling hungry , some of the menu descriptions for the eateries and pubs are mouthwatering .

Yes, I totally agree! Love that one.

I admit I'm surprised you don't like 'The Stand'; I thought the characterization was brilliant, and the plot elements excellently synchronized, especially given how MANY subplots there were. Oh well! To each his own, I suppose :)

I've getting stuck into "The Age of Arthur", a history of Britain 350 - 650 AD, by John Morris. Pretty hefty tome it is and all! Got it after reading a blog post from "The Arch Druid's Report" by John Michael Greer This Side of Thunderdome. I recommend TADR for much thoughtful and challenging musing, druid-style!

I've been reading, off and on, "The Strange Adventures of Ranger Girl", by Tim Pratt, on my bedside table for a few months now, for some reason it hasn't really gripped me and made me take it away and read it non-stop.

I'd been on a reading drought for ages and ages, but now seem to be on a reading jag.

I've been really in a drought as far as reading, too, Fox - except textbooks, I haven't had time for anything I'd like to read. I got 'A Druid's Herbal for the Sacred Earth Year' by Ellen Evert Hopman, and also her 'A Druid's Herbal of Sacred Tree Medicine'. She seems solid from what little I've been able to read, and based on what miniscule amounts I already know; I like her style, and her history sounds right. She's not a Llewellyn type author. She's very conscientious about warnings as far as poisonous parts of plants, but she also expects intelligence from her readers. I like that.

I've just finished "High Magic's Aid" by Gardner. His second work.

It's pure pulp and I loathe it for the same reason I disliked "Witchcraft today" (my review should be somewhere in the bowels of the reading room)

Wow, Lily, you've got some staying power reading to the finish a book you loathe! I figure I haven't got that much time on this earth ... once I realise I'm not getting on with a book i usually dump it and go on to something else. Particularly if it's fiction. I'm willing to stick with a fairly unreadable non-fiction book if I think the content is worth getting through the prose for. But fiction? Why waste precious time?

I am reading Stephen Lawhead's historical fantasy, "The King Raven" trilogy and am about a 3rd of the way into book 1, Hood. It is a retelling of the Robin Hood legend placed shortly after William conquered Harold and during the 1st forays of the Normans into the Welsh marches. Thus far I am enjoying it as expected, though it seems somewhat less complex than his prior works.

I love Lawhead's historical fantasies and this will provide fodder for a lot of research into a period I an not very familiar with. Fortunately I have historical maps of the period si I can try to resolve Lawhead's place names.

Just started Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco...

It was one of those books that never seemed to rise to the top of my "next book" pile... but its turn has arrived

Almost finished with The Body Sacred by Dianne Sylvan. It is really wonderfully written. Very funny, easy to relate to and highly recommended for women walking a Pagan path.

I just started Jack McDevitt's Academy Series starting with The Engine's of God and starring Pricilla 'Hutch" Hutchins. I am going to read all 6 books in this series.

A favorite quote of mine comes from The Engine's of God:
He will comes who treads the dawn,
Tramples the sun beneath his feet,
And judges the souls of men.
He will stride across rooftops,
And he will fire the engines of God.

I just finished The Druid Way and am currently going through Witches, Druids and King Arthur for the 2nd time.

And of course a lovely little book called Operational Amplifiers and Linear Integrated Circuits. Not really a Druid book, but I am hoping to use the education in alternative energy and other green endeavors.

The Madness of Angels, by Kate Griffin. It`s about an urban sorcerer who draws on the energy of the city. Love it.

I really like Ronald Hutton's How myths are made, especially the but about "ze russians." And it's nice to see that people besides me here are interested in electronics. :shake: Have you seen my phantom organ yet?

I'm reading Michael Frayn's Spies at the moment - so far very good and beautifully written with great timing & Living with Honour by Emma Restall Orr (well I'm on page 5 ...)

I'm devouring books I want to read now that semester's over - right now it's 'Servant of the Bones' by Anne Rice. Wow. That's all I can say.

That is SO AWESOME!!! :yay: How did you do at the tournament? I actually work in the electronics department at the local community college and am also in my final year of a computer engineering bachelors at university. We have some clever students and I am always thrilled to see them create things. I have high hopes for one student - to get him in the University of Washington Electrical Engineering program. He is quite talented. I am not so much, but my skills lie elsewhere within the realm of computer & electrical engineering.

May I show your You-Tube videos to my class??

I did respectably at the tournament and drew a crowd, but I didn't win anything. There were even cooler projects. However, getting into the finals was an accomplishment in itself.

blodyn wrote:May I show your You-Tube videos to my class??

Go ahead. It's nice to see that other people are interested. :D In a week or two when I'm not so busy with school I may even be able to get some pictures of the new version up, maybe even another video.

I'm glad you like it.

Mountains of the Mind by Robert Macfarlane - brilliant , i loved it! The chapter about maps worth the entry fee alone , if you like maps that is.

The Power of the Pendulum by T.C.Lethbridge - a rare book! Very hard to get hold of , i had to order it from the library and got a reserve copy from the British Library - replacement fee £120.50!!! (why the 50p? :-) )
