Magic and the supernatural by Maurice Bessy

I have recently inherited a copy of this book republished in 1963 by Spring books (originally published 1961). It was found in a secret drawer of a dresser by my father who banned me from reading it as a child, so obviously I had to take a sneaky peak! I find it all a bit creepy but wondered if anyone knows anything about it at all.
The version that I have is translated by Margaret Crosland and Alan Daventry and I notice that Amazon are selling it second hand.
Could anyone help me with this?
