Wow, some great postings. Love yours, Carragh. Here is my own long poem entry:
Vigilance
Dark is the shale of my ancestor's land
Upon which the hooves of war did trample
Bright was the horn adorning the shield
With which my fair lord did gracefully counter
Green were the fields in the budding of morn
Before blood of men did courageously spill
Blue waved the banner of virtuous conquest
From whence ivory wolves unmercifully pounced
Piercing the sky with shrieks of the damned
Arrows did soar into the clear heavens
Softly they brushed by the angels of death
Who skewer men's souls with iron and yew
Silently observing in a grove from afar
A prophet in white foresees a king's ruin
Cheers from the North proclaim a new kingdom
The stag from the South has fallen in battle
Delicately crafted are the loyalties of men
So easily broken by paltry dispute
Virile is the brother who stood with his life
With nothing to gain but meager renown
Carefully woven are the words of the seer
In the great halls imbued with bright silver
Proud is the crown upon the young lord
Whose glory is carved into the smooth marble
Jealousy feeds on the heart of ambition
As daggers are hidden beneath warm demeanors
Fealty sworn by men once deemed loyal
Turns into spite as wine unto vinegar
Gaiety bounds in the world of the common
Who see only light at the end of dark tunnels
Slavery awaits those who cast foolish lots
With men of glib tongues who peddle gold honey
Late is the hour of the vigilant watch
When guards have been lulled by tranquil respite
Nigh is destruction beyond the rear gates
Where dragons conspire to devour our sheep
Pride of the past will cloud a small mind
Our peace has been sold by liars and tricksters
Faith without works turns not the dark tide
Nor shields naive lambs from reptilian teeth
