Look Listen Learn Live - Oil Painting Entry(Below).

Here is my entry this season, if you would like you can first read my thoughts that resulted in its creation.

This picture takes account of the lifeforce within us. Samhain being the time the veil is thin representing a time of communication with spirits, maybe our own, or those gone before, or maybe with the divine, our gods and goddesses depending on our own deep rooted beliefs. A time we would possibly seek enlightenment. When the goddess can see and communicate with us.

It is a picture of many levels and each can draw from it various things depending on personal perceptions.

The dormancy of Autumn is represented by the baby in the womb,- the planted seed growing safely, protected by mother earth, receiving the nourishment required to survive the winter and blossom. Transition Protection and New Life or Experiences are all represented here Knowledge and learning, from ourselves and others whether of this physical reality or another plane. The idea also influenced by the tales of Ceridwen discussed in the Bardic course.

Snakes/serpents have been used symbolically throughout time and are deep rooted in mythology right from creation, ancient and shamanic symbolism can be likened to DNA the language of life. The background you will note corresponds to the main charka representations and the energy flowing through us often influencing our perceived aura. Kundalini energy is represented as is wisdom and healing often associated. Enlightenment coming as energy radiates around the third eye.

a poem for Samhuinn

Apples and Corn

Oak and apples
acorns and corn
old dreams have gone
but new ones are born

Sweep out the hearth
tender your home
leave out some blessings
for the spirits that roam

Acorns and oak
apples and corn
old dreams have gone
but new ones are born

the veil is lifted
so open your door
send love with gratitude
and morn no more

Apples and acorns
oak and corn
old dreams have gone
but new ones are born

Give thanks for what’s over
and celebrate what’s here
spread out the ashes
and dance into the year

Greetings,

This is my entry for the seasonal Samhuinn pick. This depicts the setting sun and the Raven as the Morrigan, reaping the souls of the slain, leading the endless cycle of birth, death and rebirth at Samhuinn and the promise of rebirth shown in the green seed beneath the beak of the raven in back. For me it is the cycle of the passing away of the old days and life and the renewal of potential, both in journey and in attitude of mind and spirit.

Generations march away

Postby Fox » 01 Oct 2008, 14:07

I may have entered this in the past, anyway, here it is again for your consideration.

Generations march away

They say Samhain is that time of year
When you can feel ancestors near
The veil between the worlds grows clear
And thin as lace
You feel that you could reach out - here -
And touch a face.

But “ancestors” is a lofty word
A whisper down the ages heard
When ancient deeds and works occurred
Now indistinct
Lives and feelings long interred
Almost extinct

Now my own Dad died not long ago
A blink of time, as these things go
My Grandad, Nana, Gran - ditto
And yet it seems
They live yet in my heart and soul
And in my dreams

Their fathers, mothers - their family home
Now seen in pictures, faded grown,
Were by them dearly loved and known
With feelings fresh
And made their souls and skins and bone
Flesh of our flesh

So generations marched away
Passing their love down to this day
As we will pass it, if we may
And gods allow
By how we act and what we say
Here and now

Raise now a cup to family dear
Gone from this world, but always near
Leave in your glass a drop of cheer
And to them prove
That we still feel their presence clear
In present love
yr pal, Fox

"So good luck came, and on my roof did light, like noiseless snow."

Still, cold, morning air,
Still cold, warming air,
Crystal clear summer's fall,
Crystal; near autumn's call
Most dear is fire to the sons of men,
most sweet the sight of the sun;
good is health if one can but keep it,
and to live a life without shame. (Havamal 68)

This has been offered up before, but since Samhuinn was Pepper's favourite season and she wrote the words for this I thought it was appropriate. It is called BloodMoon. Thunderbird wrote the music and I am speaking, together we are known as Bardic Wheel.

I dearly love Samhuinn, and Beltane almost as much; hence, I was moved to expand my preciously entered "Madrigal" to encompass both spokes of the Wheel.

Madrigal

I.
Come, my love, o come,
to the field, to the stream,
to the woodland bower,
where faeries flit and green men roam
and all the Earth bursts forth,
ripe, fecund, fertile, alive!
Let us go a-maying
with sun in our eyes,
blossoms in our hair,
drawing the newness into ourselves
as the Lady smiles on us
and Her Horned Consort laughs for sheer joy.
Hail the spring,
Bright Lady Spring!
Sap rising in stem and leaf,
Spirit rising in every creature,
as the Wheel turns
and brings us back to our beginnings.

II.
Come, my love, come back again,
from the mown fields,
from the forlorn brambles,
from the golden wood
where fallen leaves drift crimson
beneath stark branches, against silvery boles:
The Crone calls,
the Winter,
the Cailleach beckons
with a single crooked finger.
Let us withdraw as the Earth prepares
for her sleep, and all creatures likewise,
retreating to den and burrow and snug fireside,
to rest, to be still, to dream
of a far-off dawn.
Hail the Harvest Queen!
Hail the fallen King,
the beloved one who must also sleep
cocooned in the welcoming womb of night
until the Wheel turns once again
to our rebirth.

'Batfink'

This entry isn't meant for the photography, but for the pumpkin itself. I've uploaded a few pics, so you can see that it is a real pumpkin (not a photoshop session). I had immense joy in making him, savoured the pumpkin pie (made with his filling), took great joy in him whilst he roared his orange glow and mourned him a little when he began to wrinkle and perish.

I introduce you to ... 'Batfink'!
