the shepherd

sings a bird upon a tree
and underneath a shepherd stands so foolishly,
says ‘all my friends are far away from me’
turns to the bird and says ‘i hear you.’

hears the sheep just out of sight,
the webs are strung with the morning dew like beads of light,
the shepherd sees the early morn awake from the night
turns to the bird and says ‘i see you.’

and still the world demands its pay,
the shepherd grieves so openly, it’s the price of a day,
and when it’s done he throws his only cloak away
turns to the bird and says ‘i love you.’

bird is listening in the breeze,
in the swirling mists of the dawn the shepherd hears with ease,
the voice of the air and the mist and the silent thoughts of trees
turns to the bird and says ‘i am you.’

Isabella de Fortibus

Isabella de Fortibus was an extraordinary woman who ruled my Isle, Devon and parts of Hampshire, Yorkshire and Cumberland for thirty years in the late 1200’s. A widow at the age of 25 who refused to remarry, she is described by historians as “Beautiful, formidable, intelligent, energetic, the equal of any man in a man’s world”. What a woman! :tiphat:

This piece is written for guitars, fiddles, drums and bodrum. Folk based with a medieval undertone, I hope you like it. If you do not want to download the piece, I have also placed it as the first piece on my Soundclick.com page.

(Soundclick seems to be having some problems at the moment so you may have to click on the piece a few times to get it to play)

Peace and Joy
