tides

the night hovers
to a twilightmorning
I dance my deads

the Cailleach
bows over
the passing ones

with compassion
with the cruelty
of Time

the veils thin
this fear is to big
for the unknown

if only I could remember
how often I have gone
through these troubling tides

A Crossing

The wind swept night of Darkness stares
And sings through the groans of thorn Boughs Bare.

Blackened Lake - the deepening Abyss -
She calls to you through the Reed's cold kiss.

And you Step-
Let go-
And plunge to be no more.
And yet….

SAMHAIN

Samhain swirling round my soul
Old Lady in her jet black stole

Magic, Magic all around
Silently creeping, without a sound

A blessing to all from both sides of the veil
Ancestors remembered as we drink from the grail

Gwyn Ap Nudd, the escort of the dead
Is out with the Wild Hunt, so best keep to your bed

Cernunnos and Herne also follow the hounds track
But all bow their heads low to the one called Callieach

So eat, drink and play with season’s merriment
But never forget those whose lives have been spent

Their lives and their stories confirm who we are
They come to us now, by the light of the star

I call a blessing on all who hear this plain verse
On this special night of, October thirty-first.
That which I am within is that which is within me

River Haiku

Time's river rushes
Single drops leap, catching sun
Then fall and flow on

Soul Journey

What should one say to the faceless crowd,
Millions surround, yet no one around,
I travel with the wind and find no ground,
Drifting like a lifeless breeze on by

Long are the days of winding like the stream,
Making my way to join the tides,
Only to find a lingering thirst, never to be quenched

Memories of friendships that linger, like the fragrance of the seasons,
Like a breeze carrying the scent of rain,
Or an Autumn day bringing remembrance of it's woody scent,
Each in turn, silently passing on by with old mother time

Oh to find the rhythm of life,
To embrace her silence and true peace,
To pause and feel her sweet kindness,
And commune with each day like an old friend,
But which has yet to be found

Be still - and utter the prayer that life will breathe a fresh breath
Upon your face and silently leave behind a sweet rosed cheek

O Darkest Lady

O Darkest Lady cloaked in a veil of Deepest Night,
death holds no fear for us,
no void awaits us,
no emptiness will encompass us.
The wheel it turns
never stopping, never stalling.
You come to us at the time of our departure
to take our hands
so that we may cross the threshold into the light.
Tears of quiet weeping will turn to tears of joy
as our new lives begin
forever sailing across the Ocean of Time.
Our destination beyond darkness and despair,
beyond loneliness and sorrow.
Our kin await our return in the Bright Lands Eternal
to welcome us home in light and joy,
In our spirit home above where we shall dance
in the light of undying love.

The Hind of Lochranza
Those eyes have gazed over miles of heather.
They have seen the snow and the thaw
And the blooming of Spring into Summer sun.
They have looked with love and tenderness
At the fawn the gods gifted you.
And today, they looked at me,
And I looked back.
And looking into them I saw time and distance,
Mountains and moorland and decay and rebirth
And the whole history of man and animals.
Then, like a blessing,
You licked my hand and were gone.
Yet your wisdom lives on in my dreams
And gives me hope for a future bright with love.

Invoking the Bean Sidhe

Morrigan, Queen of the Bean Sidhe
Keens for Celtic families of old
Maiden, Mother, Crone is She
Her eerie tales, Bards have told

Dark Faerie, come for me tonight,
Flying beneath your raven wing.
Speeding through dark and starlight,
Landing within your Faerie Ring.

A burial mound, her dwelling place
Portal leading to the Underworld
Beware a meeting face to face
Banshee’s keen can end life’s whirl.

But if you descend from Celtic Kings
And keep a shrine for ancestors
For your soul the Banshee sings,
If you are on her family register

She counsels those who come to her
Throughout the eons and the ages.
Wisdom and blessings she can confer,
Our fears of death she assuages.

Celebrate Samhain

As the wheel has turned we welcome a new year,
Rejoice with the past, don’t shed a tear,
The harvest now gathered for the year left behind,
Together we wait, new beginnings be kind,
We can feast on the produce of what we have sown,
And thank the goddess for all that has grown,

Listen to the wise whispers from the silence now here,
Welcome new knowledge, the future do not fear,
Release toils and troubles that can only bind,
Reflect on the joys that bring peace of mind,
The darkness now engulfs the earth,
The seeds lie dormant awaiting rebirth,

As the gods and spirits draw near and families reunite,
May we celebrate, give thanks and enjoy the long night,
Kindling new dreams and hopes round the warm glowing hearth,
Flames dancing wildly marking new beginnings for the earth,
Fire light the way, ash feed the ground,
Lets rejoice and grow in the love we have found,

Snakeman (c)
To be someone is to be no-one, I am no-one.
Belief from within lets the magic begin.

The Old Ways.

The old ways, the secret ways,
The old paths, the hidden paths
Lead to a threshold of a world unknown
Where spirits of old hold court.
Fear not, you who travel
On this Samhain night
Fear not the spectres shadow,
Whose black form stands at the door
Pointing a skeletal hand your way.
Fear not this shade from another world
Rather, befriend this messenger
Come to you this one night
When the old ways, the secret ways
The old paths, the hidden paths, are open to all.

Howling winds

The wind is blowing around the house,
Windows and doors are rattling,
The hounds are howling at the door,
Trees are swaying to and throw,
Rain is poring down the drain.

Who’s that tapping on the window?
Listen, listen to the souls this night
Time to think of loved ones past,
As you pull the covers up high,
Snuggled in your warm soft bed.

FOUR MOONS

And what a rare gift it was, this morning’s
Dream—there I stood: on the shore’s edge
As a mist began to fall, and a child came running
Pointing to the sky, and there they were—

And did I say four? I should have said eight:
For behind each luminous orb was a paler
Version shadowing it with light—as if
Orpheus was leading Eurydice back,

And did I say eight? Well, I should have said,
Sixteen, for the heavenly moons reflected
Like a resurrection from deep—surfacing
In a mirror of melt: waveless

As mercury, an endless, shallow slate
Waiting for me to wade—and I,
I was ready—eager to bathe in that glow,
Ready to return, eyes focused—till he turned.

This is about a group of trees I used to visit

Untouched

Your beauty is all around,
no leaf has been turned
no branch felled,
your just off the beaten path
amongst the undergrowth,
in the twinkle in my eye
out of sight from passers by
untouched from human kind
and will stay untouched from I
as to touch or try to change, will only cause you harm
to hold you tightly in my arms and call you my own
would be so wrong
as you are not mine to keep
you are only mine to seek
