Slug
Black-clad burglar
glistens in mischief, moonlit
with vertical intent.

Eye-stalking tender leaves
he scales the cold-frame;
orange frills quiver.

Carnage ensues.

By morning
Slime-sucked glass and
silver trails, the
gardener’s only clue, and

the villain
grins a leaf-stuffed grin,
almost as fat
as his belly.

Stone Circle

The stones stand in their circles
In the centre I ask for their wisdom.
“Stand still” They Tell me.
“Be still and know that you are one
With the Goddess and the God.
The Creator,
The One,
The All,
The Many.
You are evolving, progressing, creating.
Travel freely
Through the spirals of life
And you will gather all you need
And shed all you don’t.”

Poem to my Inner Child

I give you the voice of the Blackbird
So you may speak your truth
And sing in celebration
Of a new day.

I give you the grace of the Swan
So you may hold your head high
And glow with the beauty
You didn't think you had.

I give you the hovering flight of the Kestrel
So you may seek out opportunities
And have the confidence
To sieze the moment.

I give you the sight of the Owl
So you may see clearly
When the world around you
Lives in darkness and illusion.

I give you the wings of the Eagle
So you may soar
And be truly free
In Body and Soul.

No Greater Gift

Today alone
you stepped from the ledge, and
uncaught by gravity,
fell toward the stars.
Together, yours is grace so beautiful
it stops wind and tide.

Choose each day to love each other, hushed
as your embrace,
wild with passion,
hard as lightning and soft
as sweet scented sun.

Plunge into the deep where
journey meets end, and
roots intertwine in dark earth,
unmoving, ancient, connected,
seismic and powerful,
for this is the nature of Love.

Through years of paradise and pain,
be strong.
Live and know,
as long as you have life and breath
you have each other, and
there is no greater gift.

power of awen

1
in the mystic blooming of my soul
are brooded, hatched and fed my fledgling dreams.
i watch their petal wings like skies unfolding
to take swift flight through rapturous cosmic streams...
2
in vision-cradling caverns of my mind
wild dragons fleshed of thought and reason dwell.
explosive power in every revelation -
they guard a wisdom too profound to tell.
3
and in the soaring magic of my mind
breaths are words, words names, names powers great.
fleet the image, sure the manifestation,
quick and light as thought, yet fixed as fate.
4
and in the scintillations of my cells,
crafting the fine molecular weave of flesh,
mountains are my ribs, my blood is stars –
light is the weft and radiant life the mesh
5
i am the soar of spirit, the math of mind,
i am the starry flesh, the shine of soul,
i am the breath, the fire, the flow the form,
i am the fleeting gleam, the eternal whole.
6
somehow it means something, some vital thing,
somehow to enhance, to heal, recharge, renew,
by the touch of a hand, a gesture, a word of love?
power of awen in everything we do!

A poem about the pain of endings and the fearful delight of tentative new beginnings.

Dandelion Love

My heart is a shy mouse,
a frightened deer
trembling in the bushes.

My love is a dandelion seed
riding on the wind
and settling where it may.

I drifted into you and we grasped onto each other,
clung on with teeth and nails,
hurting each other as we fought
to hold time still,
to stop the endless drift of change.

I’ve seen light filter in through the cracks,
I’ve allowed a dream to awaken
where before there was only a silent pool.

My heart is an uncaged bird,
a wild mare, running over the hills.

My love is wily as a fox,
belly low, insinuating itself into forbidden places.

Delicate hope has awoken
and somehow
is rampaging within me.

MY MAYFLY DAY

In all the expanse of time
From the first glimmer
To the wink of the last sun
I find I am here

Here in this fraction of a moment
That includes me
And for this, my personal Mayfly day
I am more amazed than I can ever say

Ashaki's protector

Together they lay,
Under the yellow moon.
Nothing was said,
Knowing the end was soon.

Love had drawn them close,
Fate soon would have them part.
A vow, he made,
From deep within his heart.

“Take comfort, my love,
For I will not lose you.
Now and always,
My love for you stands true.”

Dawn broke and she stood,
Turning to face the sun.
Her smile faded,
“The time has finally come.”

Slowly she walked,
Her own vow to be kept.
“Ashaki, you,
With my life; I protect.”

Mare of the Soul

Someone touched the Moon.
Whose heart did roam upon her breast?
Upon those waters luminous?
Seeking wavering rapture, silken peace,
Knowledge through feeling, eternal release?

Someone touched the Moon.
She is blessed, cathartic-less
Enlivening growth and tending to trees
She guides, she dances, sheds hues of white tears...

And revives.
Her glance awakens us,
A soul so fluent with the wind,
Oceans of fullness upon our shores.
Truly alive, I sing to Her;
Freedom is not in this or that,
...Just is.

Oh Wonder sweeper, soul-some keeper,
Dreamer of a thousand lakes,
Deluge of heart,
Over us it wakes.
Moon of light,
My Queen of Night,
In honour to the Sun, you're bright.

Oh wantonness dissolve our weeping,
Of a heart in Nature's keeping.
Truest trust in words true blessed,
Oh sacred lady on a quest.

Moon moon moon triune,
Mare's majesty and poet's swoon.

METEOR

Here I stand beyond the portal
A god birthed from the dark earth.
Concieved in the starry womb,
A shining light.
Swaying like a swelling berry
Hanging from the cosmic vine,
I wait to drop down into the rim of the world...

Wing Bones

Wings on wind, welcome friend;
Fly against the torrents strong.
Cliffs all white, hide the night;
Welcome friend, no sombre end.
Sacred cliffs, fast cut land;
Deepened caverns, gem-lit world.
Arcs of rainbow, stormy seas;
Welcome friend, here we rest.
Landward gale, crashing waves;
Harken to the test of days.
Sombre meeting, sacred bond;
Heartbeats deepen, world beyond.
Welcome friend, sacred friend;
One of us until the end.
One of all things here and now,
Of the natural endless power.
Deepen to the windswept bright,
Carved from long rhythm of the night.
Choose the words that choose your soul,
No darkness will you not console.
Circles turning, deep and holy,
Births and deaths, endless rolling.
Wandering into many lands,
Understanding through worlds so grand.
Your wings outstretched to pave your plan,
Sacred women, sacred man.
Destiny is bright for you,
I have heard you feel it too?

Parallel Lines

Lines drawn in metal on the ground
hard and straight to carry the aurally compartmentalised
Ever onwards.

I watch the brightly coloured moths turn to grey
As the parallel lines provide a cell away from the world
Ever onwards.

I see the world outside this box as we travel faster
The trees, the earth the buildings blurring to one
Ever onwards.

Each grey moth involved in personal contemplation
Not looking at anyone whilst the breaks in the lines provide meditation
Ever onwards.

We stop and the grey moths step out
Like new butterflys shake the grey off their bright wings and head out
Ever onwards.
"Don't look to the end of the rainbow for the pot of gold; it's already under your feet"
Enjoy this life. It would be a shame if we looked forward to the next, only to find we forgot the one before.
