Summer

The Sun hangs ripe and juicy,
dripping warmth and passion onto
baked earth
as butterflies drift
deft and lazy by.

Gentle breezes seduce
music from the trees, while
birdsong falls in shards,
splintering the heat.

Distant hum and honeysuckle waft distract.
Around a corner
roses blush, as
bees bumble into their most intimate folds.

Afternoon slumber snaps alert as
evening swifts
screech fear into the skies.

Below, kingfishers splash and
speckled trout
float heavy over pebble beds.

Nearby frogs hide in plants pots;
oozing under logs;
eager for the humid embrace of night.

Reflections Of Summer

Quiet timeless water flowing
Sparkling twinkling moving on
Children thoughtfully leaning over
Pointing and whispering hearing its song


Old man whiskers carefree and wild
Digs in the pole slowly glides
Looks at the children thinks of his own
Under the bridge but never alone


Beating of air suddenly still
Splash whoosh of feet wings pulling back
Suddenly settled slow and majestic
Queen of the river never away


Sounds from the distance tractor and dog
Echo cross meadows sun going red
Shadows and cool air mosquitoes move round
Another day closes but the river flows on
