This was a piece that I recently created as a wedding gift for a friend. Her animal symbol/animal totem is a horse, and his is a fish. I added in elemental symbolism as well, to help bring the positive qualities of the elements to their new marriage. And of course, a tree to symbolize growth and wisdom and the spiral to symbolize the journey. The finished piece was 11x17" and then framed.

I called it "the Red Blossom Tree" and it is painted in the corner of a room.

Temperas

Omena means in Finnish "apple" and it is based on stock photography(http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&secti ... 1#/d2891gu), which truly intrigued me.
It's my first human "portrait" made on canvas (and probably second painted on canvas in general) and it was much an experiment as it was also my first time working with temperas only. Although the original photo is referring to Snow White in its title, I prefer to think about the woman on painting as a story teller, who meditates on the meaning of just spoken legend and maybe about parallels between it and her own life and not always easy choices, that she had made.
