The Welsh winter tradition Mari Lwyd (The Gray Mare) and the very simillar 'oss (Penglaz) here in Cornwall fascinates me.

My new staff is now finished, :yay: in time to enter it. I found a rather long branch while out walking looking for something suitable. I dragged it our of the bushy area where I was walking and banged myself on the head with it in the process (I swear the piskies were laughing at me!) As I got to the car park, I looked down at the clover and saw both a four-leafed one and a five leafed one at my feet. As I suspected the branch was as long as the car and had to be shortened. It took some manuoervering to get it into the car in a safe manner for travelling.

I found an idea for a dragon emblem and adapted it. In the centre of the dragon's forehead is a tiny piece of black tourmaline, collected from the beach we visited when I attended my first Southern Hemisphere OBOD Assembly recently. For what ever reason it has, the staff won't let me add anything else - no runes, no other decorations. Working with it has been wonderful. I have bashed my knuckles on while sanding it and working at it, thus adding myself (my blood) to the wood whether I planned to or not, and I have breathed in the sawdust, so adding the wood to me. That is deep magic. The wood is old and very weathered with cracks in it, and yet I have felt compelled to accept the wood like that. It defies logic and reason and reminds me never to take what looks like brokenness for granted because it is in the greated brokenness and sufferning of our lives that our genius lies - our greatest gifts and inner treasures.
