I was but a small thought

I was but a small thought
In a field of a thousand
And each day I would watch on
As faces would twist and turn
Yelps of “Hear me! Hear me!”
Ringing out upon the one sided basin,
Yet no other would listen
For each wished to be heard.

I was but a small thought
In a field of my own.

Aboreal - entry

Postby Potia » 21 Mar 2005, 21:42

Arboreal

I have thrust my feet into the dark, rich earth and fed,
I have drunk from the crystal waters of the depths,
I have clothed myself anew, in shades of green, to greet fair Spring,
I have been washed clean in Summer's rain,
I have shed my raiment, now gold and scarlet, at Autumn's command,
I have stood proud and naked before Winter's sun.

I have housed a million lives within my boundaries,
I have watched lovers embrace at my feet,
I have comforted the lonely child in my arms,
I have been cut down and my body used to bring warmth,
I have grown once more in the cycle of life,
I have been one with the Forest, yet a single being.

I am the Tree.

Thanks folks, glad you like it. I actually wrote it a few years ago now following a vision I guess you could call it of being a tree, it was only a fleeting moment but it made a strong impression.

Blessings,
Potia.

It never ceases to amaze me how simple words can evoke beautiful images and strong emotions. These poems are all wonderful. I was particularly moved by your poem 'Song of the Flood' Prairie_Kestrel. The lines:

I sing in my soul of the freedom of flight,
And the dreams carried on the wind...

I sing in my soul of the lightning and the flood,
Of the fear and of the fall, of endings and beginnings...

(I hope I copied it out correctly  ) really touched me. I also really liked your poem 'I was but a small thought' Ai-Ante. It seems that writing good poetry is certainly not a lost art.

Dreams

I've had many dreams over the years
Some of them died and caused me tears
Some came true and gave reason for cheer
Then there are dreams yet unfulfilled, just here.

Some things you build up in your mind as you dream
But when finally fulfilled, aren't all that they seem.
Then there are the dreams you continue to dream
Holding on to the hope that maybe someday
Somehow someone will find a way.

However farfetched and silly your ideas may seem,
Hold on to them and continue to dream.
You dreams take you places you may never see
When dreaming a dream, your spirit soars free.

When life gets hard and things get tough,
Look back at your dreams and never give up.
Dream for the future, keep looking ahead.
Try to face life with courage and not fear or dread.

Losing a Friend

Could you please tell me what I've done
That causes you to turn and run?
Wherever you chance to see my face
You hurry up and leave that place.

I had thought that we were friends.
I did not know that had come to an end.
The reason for this I wish I knew.
Losing you for a friend has made me blue.

I miss the jokes we used to share
And the talks that showed you cared.
we shared some times that were lots of fun,But now it seems like that's all done.

What I did wrong I wish you would tell
For if I knew,I could appologise.
For me it really hurts like hell
to see mistrust and contempt in your eyes.

I wish I knew how to make things right.
Then we'd be friends again and the world would be bright.
I don't know why it had to end
But I wish you'd come back,I miss my friend.

I hope you guys dont mind a poem about a battle about an encounter with a wild beast
after all these great poems (that have nothing to do with fighting in them) I have second thoughts about posting it
Just the breeze in the tree, slowly floating by with grace.

Hi John! The decision to post or not is yours alone, but if you want my opinion, I hope you will. As I've said before, Eisteddfod is a competition and there will be winners, but there truly are no losers.

By posting a poem you do more than just enter a contest, you share a little piece of yourself, and I think that is more valuable to us, your readers, than any amount of words, no matter how beautifully arranged.

I really like your poem, Pixie. It's simple, honest, and packs a wallop for anyone who has lost a friend, for whatever reason. Well done!

Please do post John. We all have to battle things at times and fighting in one way or another is as much a part of life as more peaceful parts.

Blessings,
Potia

Frightful Encounter

I stand their starring up into his eyes
This enemy I face is more then double my size
he stares back at me, his face full of lies
he makes me fear that I am going to die

I draw my sword to attempt to even the grounds
when he breathes, is the eeriest of sounds
he could probably kill me in just one bound
I think that this is no ordinary hound

I can end this horror right here and now
but I doubt my skills, with the carcass of the cow
possibly it’s friendly, so I will take a bow
instead it hit me and I hit the wall with a “Pow!”

As this giant hound of a man walks to me
he lets out a sigh as he looks at my mangled body
I could see I was not a worth foe and started to flee
but that’s when he decided to say something

“I was hoping for a challenge, but I digress
I get a man who hardly knows his swordsmanship
I was told of legends but was left to guess
you are not what they spoke of, you are much less”

As he rased his arm, about to give me the final blow
a pain ran through his heart, his body turned to dough
he backed off and fell to the floor, being my worthiest foe
he had died from a simple heart attack . . . Wow!

This monster had left a trail of blood behind him
killing all in sight, his past was very dim
full of fallen bodies and empty rims
but I decided to talk to his motionless limbs

“I was told of legends but was left to guess
you are not what they spoke of, you are much less”
Just the breeze in the tree, slowly floating by with grace.

Entry - The Sparkling Gleam

Postby FallingLeaves » 24 Mar 2005, 23:22

The Sparkling Gleam
at times unseen
but when not looking
I catch its sheen

In the twinkling eye
in a starlit sky
and sometimes found
in the piggies sty

Its aways there
without a care
but disapears when
I really stare

It dances from faces
to open spaces
then shines through trees
and secret places

In voices enchanted
and gardens planted
The Sparkling Gleam
the hidden sheen.
