Private Messages

Hi, are PMs working properly? I have written a couple of PMs this week and they are still sat in my Outbox, not in sent messages. Not being a regular PM user do they sit there until opened or have they not been sent.

Computers, bah! Humbug sir!

Cheers.

I don't know if they are or not... I've sent a couple of PMs to several people who should have responded by now, but so far I've gotten nothing in way of a response, which is highly strange.

Twyrch, Can you see yours in the outbox or the sent box? The ones we are talking about we can see in the out box which means they havent been opened yet, once they are opened they go to the sent box

Actually, I've seen both... some messages remain and get responded to... others disappear and never get a response. The people I'm sending them to, probably would have at least responded with some sort of message by now. 8-)

Twyrch,

This may be unlikely to have happened with your messages, but if someone deletes a message from their Inbox without opening it, it will disappear from your Outbox and won't appear in your Sent Messages. Are you sure they've been on the board since you sent the messages? You can check the Members list and see when was the last time they were here.

Also, for anyone who hasn't noticed, we now have a Save feature...be sure you hit Submit if you're ready to send, because Save doesn't do anything but preserve a copy for later access.

The new pm is tricky until you get used to it. On the ones that moved from your Outbox to your Sentbox, it is possible that the individuals saved their response instead of sending it, so it is sitting in their box as a draft.

Something interesting on those deleted messages, you know the ones that people delete before you pick them up but you still get notification? Now they show as an unread message with the name of the person that sent them and this, "This message has been removed by its author before it was delivered." So at least you know who changed her/his mind!

Not that I'm advocating possible trivial MODing to the board software at this point...

...BUT once everything goes final there are a couple of tweaks that can be done, if one were so inclined, that will actually send the text of the message inside the Notification emails - this way users not only see the responses to forum threads but get the PM's right in their email, as well.

Selene,

That's what is so strange... they do show up in my sent messages and I know they were picked up because I saw both people come online (thanks to the Friend feature) shortly after I sent the messages, and they subsequently were removed from my outbox and moved to Sent.

I suppose, perhaps, that they have been too busy to respond to me... :-| maybe I should send another asking if they received it, to be sure.

I see, on some of the other boards I frequent, PMs sit in the outbox until the system drops them into the recipients inbox at which point they become sent messages. If it's just people being lazy so and so's I can deal with that...cheers guys and gals.
