Links to external URLs

Postby Kernos » 11 Sep 2007, 17:45

IN the old board, links to URLs on other sites or even our own site opened in new windows instead of replacing the content of the window you are browsing. This annoys me, as I often forget to choose open in new window or click it with cmd-opt-shift-click which is the say my Safari is configured. In the old board all links in posts opened in new windows.

Think about opening all the graphics in the Eisteddfod and comparing them side by side.

Please vote - Leave it the way it is or open in new windows

TIA,

Kernos

Darn annoying to have to hit back to get to the topic you were reading. I voted to open in a new window.

I'm not sure how the firefox coding works to open in a new tab, but in the old board, when I used Firefox, the external links opened in a new tab, not a new window. Of course here at work I have no choice... (My HTML skills are limited to what I learned in 1997, and haven't really progressed since then)

I've been looking for a way to change the configuration back to the way it was...if it's in there, it's not obvious. Yes, please, change it to open in a new window!!

I'm not fussy, and have gotten used to right clicking to choose 'open in new tab', instead of a new window. (I use a tab browser)

I prefer it to open in a new window as well. I'm sometimes called "Johnny click too quick" because when I'm done with a window, I close it and then let out a few choice expletives for losing my place on previous website.

What I've gone to doing in IE 7.0 is right-clicking on the link and choosing "Open in a new tab" which works only when I remember to do it. :-)

I'm not sure about this boards software codes, but I know in HTML, you can add a Target="0" to the link code to make it open in a new window. Perhaps there is something similar in this code as well.

I prefer links to open in a new window or better still, in a new tab. I don't know if all browsers have the tab function though. I started when using Firefox.
