Saving a post when someone posted first?

Postby Donata » 05 Feb 2008, 03:19

A couple of times lately I've written a brilliant  reply, submitted it, only to be told "I may wish to review my post" because someone posted in the meantime.

OK. Both times I attempted to copy my post so I could reply after the newer post. Both times OBOD refused to let me post it - the 'copy' function went gray. (so did I).

So the first time I did my best to recreate my brilliant post. This last time I thought, too much work! so my totally brilliant reply is lost to posterity. :-(

Is there a way around this problem? sometimes I like to take my time to write, edit, and review what I want to say but someone else beats me to it and my brilliant post is upstaged and lost! :o

Help!

Donata,

I've had that happen a few times. After I read the new post, if no changes are required in mine, I just hit Submit again. If it requires a revision, I just make whatever modifications are needed to my text, then Submit it. I don't remember ever noticing a Copy option. I'll try to pay closer attention the next time it happens to see if I can figure out what is going wrong for you.

I'll have to give this a try!

I'm not sure from what you say if what you're describing is a problem with the software or not. I find when I get this page I can submit if I want, or edit the text below.

But I did have a similar problem with editing submitted private messages. Someone suggested trying a different template; and when I did, I found in the different template the editing worked fine. So it might be worth trying that.

Or, if you've done a particularly wonderful bit of writing, copy it before submitting it the first time!

Again, duh.... I never tried to submit my totally brilliant  posts again... I simply thought I was being rejected (the pain of it!). :-(

Now I know! thanks. :D

Does this board have the option of allowing people to save a draft to work on it? Maybe a function we may want.

Yes, saving is an option; there's a Save button at the bottom of the message box when you're composing a post. You can retrieve drafts by going into your User Control Panel and, in the Overview section, selecting Manage Drafts.
