Recalling a tale told

Postby Blue-Domk » 03 Jan 2013, 00:10

Hello Damh, all, I was hoping that you could help my memory. A good while back, I was listening to one of the shows and there was a storyteller that told the most magical tale. My searches thus far have turned up empty, which I know it was on one of the shows sometime in the last few years. The tale involved a man who fell in love with the daughter of a king who lived under a lake, I believe. She too loved him and they married, with her living amongst his people. The catch was that if he were ever harsh with her three times, she would return to her world under the lake never to be seen or heard from again. Needless to say, after many years, he was inadvertently harsh with her and she vanished back to her otherworldly home. If I recall correctly, she had three sons with the man, and she would return to instruct her sons. I hope my memory isn't too far off as some of the story does seem vague in my mind, however, my Spirit won't let go of the tale. I would much appreciate any help in reminding me of the story and providing me with with any information about it so I can in turn look it up for spiritual study. Thanks much. Peace and blessed be...

Hi, Blue-Domk.

That sounds very much like The Lady of Llyn y Fan Fach by Claire Hamilton.

I think you will find that performance on this CD from the OBOD shop...

...but it doesn't give a track listing as far as I can see, so you'd better check. She is just a bloody amazing bard, isn't she?

All the best. x

As Bracken has written, it sounds like the tale of The Lady of the Lake (Llyn y Fan Fach). A version of it can be found here http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/celt/wfb/wfb03.htm from The Welsh Fairy Book by W. Jenkyn Thomas (1908)

Llyn y fan fach is a truly amazing place, according to the legend their descendents went on to become the Healers/ Physicians of the Myddfai and actually lived in the area.

Thank you so much friends. You all have helped out perfectly. This past Summer Solstice, I told the tale to my Son (it was his first sunrise and Solstice) as we sat by a fire. This story is truly special to us. Thank you again. :warm:
