Silbury Sun Roll

Postby Ade Sundog » 26 Mar 2010, 23:14

Hello there

I have just been sent this , and have never heard of it before :

http://www.peteglastonbury.plus.com/Sil ... ly2009.gif

There is a phenomenon called the Sun Roll where the setting sun apears to roll down the side of the hill. The hill has to have an angle of 30 degress for this to work and surprise surprise Silbury Hill works.

Here is an animation that a photogropher took of it. It looks great.

Fascinating! makes me wonder if Silbury Hill was purposefully built for this? seems an odd coincidence!
Our ancestors knew so much!

thanks for posting it.

Seems that the link isn't working anymore.
I googled and found this new link: http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/6Nwxzt/ww ... .plus.com/ with a video of the Silbury Sun Roll.
It's really amazing.

Blessings,

Excellent! Thanks for finding the new link... I love that! Makes me think: I often see the sun come up but rarely watch it set.
The sounds of the winds in the elms
like the strings of a harp being played,
the note of the blackbird that claps
with the wings of delight in the glade.

Wonder if this happens just at certain times of the year, I see the date on it was May.
If it was filmed happening at say the summer solstice you could point to the hill being made to echo the sun descending to the underworld. The music playing suggests though that this is a jolly event a bit like a Gloucestershire cheese rolling ceremony with the speeded up time lapse photography
