That's great! I just sent for mine as well... I'm awaiting the registration form from OBOD and should be finalized before too long. :)

Arachne

I am about half way through the Bardic grade and have had a tutor for a few months.  I find that I spend different amounts of time on each gwerse depending on what it is bringing forward for me.  I had read widely before starting the course, but can say that by practicing the exercises in the gwersi I have experienced real growth and discovered aspects about my spiritual pathway that have been really exciting.  My tutor is great and was obviously picked for me with great care as we have a lot in common.  If you still have any doubts after all of the helpful comments above,  I would say take a chance - you will be pleasantly surprised......

Having finally read through the majority of the message boards and gained so much in the process, I finally took the plunge and enrolled for the OBOD course.
Now I have to learn patience as I wait for things to arrive.
I tend to be a loner and not a talker but I'm sure you'll be hearing from me on the Bards board in the not too distant future.
Blessings,
whitetiger :)  :cloud9:

Whitetiger have you messaged the mods of the southern focus forum to sign up there as well?

I am curious to know why the course is so expensive. For me in American dollars it is over $400 and that seems very high. I know that you get a lot of material and the postage is a factor. Can somebody help me understand? I am very interested but I do have to explain that to my husband.

Welcome Silverstorm!

Yes, $400.00 seems pretty high. Money is tight for me so when I began the course I had to ask myself, how much was I willing to pay to better myself and my future? And I did a little research.

I don't know how expensive college courses are in Germany. But for comparison, my local Community College charges $115.00 per credit and most classes are 3 credits. So if I were to go there and take a 3 credit philosophy course I would spend $345.00, plus registration fees etc. Then if I needed help, I would have to hire a tutor at something like $25 per hour.

If you break it down, the course cost me less than the money I spent buying a cup of coffee every day from the local coffee-shop. And the results have been much more fullfilling and well worth it.

KatLady thank you for the new perspective. I have to admit that I hadn't thought in those terms. University is free in Germany, although since I am American and not a German national I don't think it works that way for me. Seeing as how I enjoy several expensive habits (not coffee but others   ) I now have a greater bargaining point.

Kat Lady,

University education is (still) free in Germany, but the coffee comparison is of course still valid :)

I paid in 4 rates of 50 GBP (great britain pound) each, every three months, which was manageable. I thought of it as one book per month, which I would have bought anyway.

I can understand that it is difficult to explain to somebody else why one wants to spend the money. Maybe order the introductory pack first (which you can share with your husband even if he doesn't want to take the course himself).

cheers + good luck,
Sonja

I've decided to send off for the information pack too. I'm just curious what I will get after completing the course, obviously apart from the knowledge I'd have gained, I think it'd be nice to get a certificate or something? =)

Another perspective, haven't seen it raised yet.

at $400 you are getting about 51(?) booklets and a CD.

That makes it about $7.50 a booklet/CD including postage, imo that is not all that bad. That is not taking into account the online (forum and chat) support and the tutor that is included.

Peace

Meaghan.

I was interested in ordering the course. My household is not agreeable with non-Christian spiritual paths. I would perfer if they did not ask questions. How discreet is the packaging?

Very discreet, the gwersi come in brown envelopes and twice you'll recieve a storage box, one at the beginning and somewhere along the middle, it mentions the Order on the box, but you don't have to put them in there right.

Thank you for your quick reply!

Once the things are in my room there should be no problem, my only concern is for the outer packaging. What is the name on the return address? If it is just an abbreviation it should be fine. If it mentions Druids or the Order perhaps I can email someone to work something out?
