Hello :) I am reading this topic page per page and found this on page 2! I have received an introductory packet and until gwersi (U) 8 but not that poster.... 8-) It could be of course because I am doing the cursus in french and it has not been translated ?
I would really love to have it -in english- so I was wondering if there is a way I could get it ?

I daresay that if you contacted the OBOD Office they might be able to send one out to you, if you ask nicely. :)

I loved the poster also - I have it in an oak frame above my fireplace

I love the little poster. I'm guessing it must be a new item though as I don't appear to have one in among my stuff, although my last attempt at the course was a couple of years back.

Currently I'm thinking of giving the course another go as my life has settled down and I feel it is a better time to work through the material than during my somewhat turbulent time as a student. Perhaps it is time for a return to OBOD...

Hello everyone! :tiphat:

I just sent off for the course yesterday and am trying my best to be as patient as possible. I have been studying Wicca for a little over eight years now, but I'm finding myself being drawn to a more Celtic path. :tiphat:

I have a little question about seed groups. If I do not have one available in my area, how difficult is it to start one (assuming I can find other interested parties)? Should I be expected to process through the Bardic course before I would be allowed to start such a group?

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

I believe that all you need to start an OBOD seed group is to have 2 OBOD members as part of your group. To become a Grove, you need two Druids in it. If you go down the board to the Seedgroup forum - you'll find a lot of info there.

Hi, EagleWolf,

Here's the page on the main OBOD site that gives a bit more info: http://www.druidry.org/modules.php?op=m ... page_id=80

You can start one whenever you want to after you start receiving the course (assuming you can find others in your area who are interested, of course—that's generally the hardest part). But it isn't necessary to wait until you've reached any certain point in the studies.

Good luck to you with this and blessings on your new path!

Thank you Selene, that is exactly what I was looking for. I must have overlooked it the dozens of times I checked out the main website before.

I'm still waiting for my introductory items to get here, and the anticipation is about to kill me.

I'm barely hanging in there! :yay:

Hey guys,

Dont mean to drag up a new topic, but I didnt deem it appropriate to start an entirely new topic thread when this thread was already on the 'idea' i was wondering about. I've been contemplating taking the coarse for years now. I'm a Junior in highschool atm, moving to Senior status in 1 month. I found this site, this forum, and the coarse around Freshman year. At the time the issue was money, but currently, the issue is time. I've read though the myriad of posts and found that you all suggest kicking back at night and reading, practicing, and genuinely progressing...but I was wondering if I could get a bit of your advice.

In my highschool, I've recieved a 32 on the ACT, I'm vice-pres of science, pres of GSA, etc etc. Also, Senior year is supposedly the easiest/hardest time of highschool with colleges being interested. I was wondering if you think it would be wise to enroll in the coarse now, with highschool still a large presence in my life. I dont want to enroll in this wondrous class then find that I dont have time for both highschool and OBOD classwork. Its not that I'm a worry-wort, lol, its that I dont want to undercut the significance of the coarse.

Sincerely awaiting your advice,
Wolfhide

You do not have to follow a particular time plan during the course (it's "course"....). Take your time. If you accept taking longer than a year for the grade, sure, start now.

lol...wow I can't spell at 1 in the morning...'coarse'...lol. sorry about that. I was strongly considered beginning this new path...I've matured a lot since my last visit. I wouldn't ever expect to finish in a year from listening to the tales of others in this thread. Then I thought that this course much contain quite of bit of help to keep progression for an entire year, most likely more. Just more adding to my enthusiasm. I think, like arachnid, I'll grab the introduction package and see how that works with the highschool schedule. And ty again Lily.

I was wondering if material could be sent out sooner - I am currently not working, and have a lot of time to dedicate to the course, therefore I am going through the material quickly (and thoroughly!). Is it possible to have stuff sent sooner than once every four weeks? I will be taking the summer off as well, and would love to dedicate this precious chunk of time to the course, and to progress further along it at my own pace. Is this possible, or is it a set monthly mailing?

Coyote, you can of course write to the Office and ask them explaining your circumstances, though I don't know whether they will agree. You can always try.

However, sometimes it is always good to go over what you have done. Re-read your journal, re-do the practicum's and of course, get the recommended reading material. All that will take up some of your free time, and I think you'll find that the benefits will outweigh the delay in receiving your next package. Like a good wine, the work should be savoured and not gulped.

Hi Wolfhide - Since I work in admissions at a university in the US I had to respond to this. You are doing great in your studies judging by your ACT score so it seems like you are well set for your senior year. The only thing I want to add is that by all means start the OBOD course work but if at any time you get stressed just leave it aside while you concentrate on your HS academics. You can always go back to the OBOD course work but you only get one shot at preparing for college. There is so much stress in your senior year you really need to be as kind to yourself as possible.

If you go ahead with starting the course always remember you can put your course on hold till you have more time.

I wish you every success with your senior year and with your druid path.

Re: Questions about OBOD's course

Postby Selene » 27 Apr 2008, 17:47

Hi, Coyote,

As Ailim says, it never hurts to ask, but don't be surprised if the answer is "Sorry, no." I have no inside information here, but it's my belief that the course is intended to go at a certain maximum pace (i.e., one gwers a week) for a reason. We all need pauses now and then to digest what we've read—for the learning to "soak in," so to speak. And many of us need time occasionally to clear our thoughts of all things OBOD and take care of other business.

Remember, as druids, we strive for balance in our lives and too much of anything coming at us too fast can throw off that balance. With the Bardic course, faster does not equal better, and maybe not even as good...I can't envision the Bardic work as an immersion course. It is truly transformative, and I think the pace at which we take it is a major contributor to the transformation that occurs in ourselves as we follow the wheel of the year through our studies. Think of the pauses as incubation or battery-charging time and enjoy them as part of the process!

Ty sooo much Jtoone. I really appreciate your response. It feels a little more compfortable knowing I can put it (the course) to the side if things get slightly over my head. And yes, Senior year is going to be a trip for me. So many AP classes and college. I thank you again for your advice and help. I'll certainly order the first Grade coursework. I feel safer in my decision than I have for years, thanks be to all.

Druidic Wolf, I also want to point out that anyone under the age of 18 needs parental consent. If you do consider beginning the course at this time, you may want to write to the Office to find out exactly what you will need to do etc.

As others have said, there is no rush so even if you do begin and find that there just are not enough hours in the day for you to do schoolwork and attempt the course, you can put it aside and get to it as you can.

Keep us up to date on your decision.

Druidic Wolf, I just wanted to add a comment as a parent of a teenage member who is also finishing up high school and getting ready to go the University in August. She started the course. She got through the introductory materials and then decided that she really needed to just be a teenager. The course is here for her when she is ready for it, and there is no reason for her to pick it up or go further than she wants to at any time. Whatever you do, don't stress about it. Take your time to savour it.
Light,

Jingle
