How to Access the OBOD Members Forums

The Order of Bards Ovates & Druids is a Mystery School which offers a journey of spiritual development rooted in the Druid tradition. There are many members-only forums. Forum rules
The Order of Bards Ovates & Druids is a Mystery School which offers a journey of spiritual development rooted in the Druid tradition. The course is divided into three grades: Bardic, Ovate and Druid, each of which is represented by a forum on this message board.

Each of the grades awakens or resonates with a particular aspect of the soul, which is quite unique and distinct. The Bardic grade’s purpose and design is to help us awaken to our inherent creativity – to stimulate those aspects of our soul that long to express themselves in the world. You could say that the purpose of the Bardic grade is to help us sing the song of our soul. This is to be taken in its widest sense – for some of us it may literally help us to sing out, while for others it may help us to express ourselves creatively in other ways.

The Ovate grade’s purpose and design is to help us awaken to the inner ‘Wild Person’ – to ignite the ‘green fire’ in our souls that feels at one with the spirit of all Nature. This inner ‘wild person’ can be seen as the ‘inner shaman’ or ‘inner healer’ too, who is able to unite instinct with intuition.

The Druid grade’s purpose and design is to help us awaken to the inner Sage – that wise person who exists in each of us – who is sometimes only heard as a ‘still small voice’ offering counsel, but is often not heard or heeded at all.

By understanding the grades in this way, we can see how the Bardic grade is opening us to our hearts, to our feelings, upon which our creativity depends; the Ovate grade is awakening us to our bodies and our instincts (which is why we work with our ancestry and with healing in this grade); and the Druid grade is awakening us to the deeper powers of our mind.

Just as the body, heart and mind form a trinity which makes up the human being, so the bardic, ovate and druid grades form a trinity which makes up the path or spiritual way of Druidry.

It is often useful to separate work on the human being into these three parts, to focus specifically on the body, the emotions or the intellect, but in reality the human being is one. Likewise with Druidry and with membership in the Order: it is helpful to work within these three schools of learning, but in essence we are all simply followers of the Druid Way, coming together within the fellowship of the Order to learn, and to love.

In addition, there are forums where all members may join as a community and participate in discussion.

How to Access the OBOD Members Forums

In order to access the members-only forums, you must be an OBOD member and registered on this board. (Please note that OBOD memberships do not expire and there are no dues to pay to be in good standing! If you were ever a member and received the monthly gwersi packets, you are still a member and eligible to join the members-only forums here, no matter how long ago you were working on the course.) We are not tied into the Order's membership database, though, so please verify your status following the procedure below:

1. If you haven't registered an account here on the message board, do so now. Just click the "Register" link at the top of the page and follow the prompts. Once you submit your information, you should almost immediately receive an e-mail with a link to click to activate your account. Click the link and you're ready to go. (If you don't receive the activation e-mail within a minute of submitting your registration, check your spam box. If you still can't find it, send an e-mail to administrators@druidry.org and an admin will manually activate it for you.)

2. Once your account is activated, send an e-mail to OBODforumaccess@druidry.org and provide the following information:
  • Your username on this board
  • Your real name (as registered with OBOD)
  • Your mailing address (as registered with OBOD)
  • If sharing gwersi with another member, that person's name and city
  • The OBOD grade forum to which you're requesting access (i.e., whichever you are currently studying—Bard, Ovate, or Druid)
  • A quote from a Gwers of your grade as specified below:

    Bards: the first sentence of the first paragraph of the text on the first white page (p. 55) of Bardic Gwers 3. Note: you do not have to have completed Gwersi 1 and 2 before you ask for entrance to the members' areas; if you are new, just open the third booklet and copy the first sentence. If you are receiving the audio course only, quote the sentence spoken on Gwers 3, Track 1.

    Ovates and Druids: the first sentence of the first paragraph of the text on the first white page of Ovate or Druid Gwers 1.If you are receiving the Ovate audio course only, quote the sentence spoken on Gwers 1, Track 1.

3. You'll be added to the appropriate grade forum as soon as possible (which will also give you access to OBOD General Discussion, Groves and Seedgroups, Camps and Festivals, and posting privileges in the Druids' Marketplace). When you receive a note welcoming you to the forum, you'll know you're ready to go!
