wand making and Thor

Postby cat » 14 Aug 2010, 21:31

Today I decided to make a wand from some pear tree wood that we were given.
I carved a spiral on it in the bark and a sun and moon sign.
I dyed the sun, moon and ends of it purple with some black currents.
Just as I was finishing the wand a thunder storm broke out so it seemed right to put the wand out in the hail and rain with the thunder and lightening.
I hope that the thunder was a good sign. I now feel that i sould carve some lighteining on it.

Has any body here any experince or knowledge of Thor that could give me some more insight?

I'll try and get a photo up soon though i'ts no work of art I think it should be a good wand.

sounds like a great wand. yeah, it would want a lightning bolt carved on, i reckon. maybe it's already talking to you. i don't know much about thor - he's not the only thunder god though. have you tried googling taranis? he's your celtic thundergod.

Thanks Wyeuro,

Ill look up other dietys I only identfly with Thor as my mum comes from the east midlands (dane lore) so he's the only thunder god i've heard of till now.
I'm going to carve some lightening on it as its just asking for it to be done as you say.

I've never made a wand before so don't know if there is anything i should do before using it.

I'm only intending to use it for casting a circle though i beleve there are other things that it can be used for does any one have any advise?

im making my first wand myself, ive been told to bind the crystal with cotton, and then seal it with beeswax, the wand not the crystal. Then i guess you consecrate it but thats upto personal preference, if you have any trouble carving symbols in something i did with mine was use a magnify glass and used the sun to write things into my wand

Why did you choose to make a wand if you don't really know what it is for?
That sounds less friendly than I mean it, I mean that usually these sort of objects have a very clear purpose, and are acquired or created for that purpose. It is the specific purpose that kind of makes them 'special' or 'powerful'. And their deeper intent is mainly to enhance the awareness of their specific purpose in your mind. Their power is in you, not in the stick itself. So doesn't creating a wand for the sake of creating a wand just give you a nice decorated stick?

Having said that. It probably doesn't hurt too much either.
Connecting/contacing 'Thor' in the way you described can be very powerful, if you know how to recall/use that power later at least. How will you do that?
I don't think that it matters what you put on your wand, as long as you realise what it is.

Yeah, that is why I can't say more about it either. If you really want to know, then pm me... or be patient and wait a few years *grin*.

Let the wand guide you, is what I always say. Magical objects usually find their way to you, not the other way around. You can put out a call, you can buy stuff - but magic happens when they come to you.
