Ogham Yule Trees

Postby Frog » 24 Nov 2010, 14:32

I decided to draw / paint some Ogham words for friends as Yule/Christmas presents. I then was struck for an idea for a Christmas card.

For those who recognise the letters, it spells "YULE BLESSINGS". I am aware that there may be a couple of letter changes I could have made (Ng instead of N G) but given I'd already used artistic license to create the tree I'm not going to lose too much sleep.

I used Black dipping ink and a Fine point watercolour brush to paint the letters.

I also think that is cool bringing ogham writing into the present day.

I would love to receive such a yule card made with thought and the gift of time from the person who made it.

I am making prints with oak leaves for my friends I am not yet that fluent with the ogham letters.

With blessing and light

Hello Frog :)
I had fun putting the letters together : ingenious way to distribute them on the tree !
When I joined in the right order the letters with a line it looked like a Yule garland
Very nice :tiphat:
ps: I am curious about your choice of the letter Y ? any reason ? (I ask because I need to write something with an Y and was thinking of using an i

 To use the words of Captain Mainwaring (Dad's Army), "I wondered if you'd spot that".

Luckily, it was the only card that I forgot the extra line  (must have needed coffee then!)

Yes, it should have been the I, not the E

I am a bit of an Ogam freak
