Help please! Learning to play harp

Postby Sallyinlancs » 16 Jul 2011, 13:33

I have a harp that I can't play yet. I've been unable to find a teacher anywhere near me and so it's looking like I'll have to teach myself. I'm fairly musical and tend to pick up instruments quickly, so that isn't a problem in itself, but I could really do with some good resources to help me - perhaps something online? Or a 'teach yourself harp' book?

Can anybody help me with this please?

I've been using Sylvia Wood's 'Teach yourself to play folk harp' which is pretty good. I've had my harp just over two months and can play a few of the easier tunes. It is a lot harder than I imagined though! :o
I also watched some videos on the website of the company that made my harp http://www.welsh-harps.com/harp_playing_lessons_video.php they were very useful for basic technique.
Tomorrow I'm going to a workshop by Harps Northwest http://www.harpsnorthwest.org.uk/beginner-workshops/default.php might be worth contacting them to see if they're planning any events near you.

Wow! That's bloody brilliant - exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!!!!! I'll definitely be going to one of those workshops! I just wish I had seen today's sooner. :-( Ah well, I'll get that book and give it a go in the meantime. Again - I thank you!!
