What inspires you?

I'm in the process of designing 2 new pieces of jewellery.. one is a pendant to house some keepsakes from my parents who have passed away. Their totem was a fox, so that has really influenced the design. I find nature very inspiring, but also my cultural heritage in the form of anglo-saxon and celtic artwork. For colours I tend to be inspired by gemstones the most, and often design things around a particular gem or gemstone sphere.

My surname means "blacksmith".. it's take me a while to find that there is a "blood truth" in that, and that by working in metal, I feel very connected to my ancestors. Although I didn't know it, this is what I have been searching for all these years. It feels "right" and it feels like "home" and it feels like there is a power in it. This is what I was born to do, it's what I was made for. It's not just me approaching a design or a piece of silver, it's the strength and creativity of all that have gone before me as well.

So, what inspires you? What makes your spirits soar and makes you want to create?

(Sometimes I get inspired by my new nailvarnish colour or something else that just catches my eye... which just goes to show me that our inspirations don't all have to be epic.. ;) )
