Hehe You know I DO have a fear of clowns. When I was a kid and we would go to the circus the clowns would choose children out of the audience to ride around in this little train, which then went behind the stage at the end. I thought they kept the kids and that's how clowns replenished their ranks. To this day clowns still freak me out because of that.

But more seriously I would say dying of cancer is my main fear. My grandmother died of it and now my father is loosing a protracted battle with it. Besides the fact that I fear it may be "in my genes", seeing the toll and pain its taken on both of them have made me not want to see anyone go through that (least of all myself or loves ones).

I have heard that a lot of people are afraid of clowns. I wish I understood what that was about. Maybe when you are really young, that ridiculous outfit looks really scary and threatening. ???

In my current situation, I do have to rely on other people for help. It was really hard to accept at first, but eventually, I just became so grateful that I had these wonderful people in my life. However, when one of them is unavailable, it brings it home to me how helpless I really am without someone else to help me. I guess I'm getting the "scared" lessons in small steps!

I've read some of the answers allready given and, in light of this, I wish you all the best and may the Lord grant that you be protected from your nightmares... :-(
My greatest fear...World War 3. The worst part is that it's plausible! :-( I don't think 2 days go by that I don't wonder who's going to drop the A-bomb on who. I can't shake the feeling that SOMEONE from among our esteemed world leaders (I don't claim to know who) is just iching for the "fun" to start. Am I parranoyed? I hope not.
Blessings to you all! :)

I don't think you're paranoid, Druid Faquir. Things are such a mess right now, and power makes people crazy. You never know what's going to happen, so just live every day to the fullest! I find that if I let my mind focus on the insanity in our world right now, I become very distressed. So, I just try to keep up with what's happening (and that's not easy to so, because you never know who to believe!), and then let it go.

I'm afraid of showing people what I can, it's not exactly a nightmare-kind-of fear, but it is really holding me down.

If I am doing something I'm really good at, I feel very uncomfortable if it becomes something to compare with others...

I share illion's fear.
I am not sure why I have such fear. It might be because, deep down, I am afraid that if I show how good I can be or how bright I am, or loving, or etc, I will not be accepted. It is quite healing to find out someone with the same fears.

I'm deeply afraid my mother will die before we reconcile our differences. Maybe this isn't my biggest fear, but it's in the top ten. I could write her a letter, but I feel pretty certain that she'll toss it before reading it... :-|

I know that the moment will have to come eventually, but I am very afraid of losing one of my parents before they have lived their lives to the full and I can rationalize the end by saying 'well, everything has been said and done and come on, the body is all used up'.

This means that I do my biggest best to settle any differences that we have as quickly as possible and every bye-bye is a felt and warm one. You never know. Hopefully I'll keep doing this with both for a loooooooooong time to come.

Ah, yes, and the other most horrible fear is spiders. Really. :fear:

eating alone...I am afraid of choking and not having someone to help me....it has never happened, it is mostly irrational...when I am alone, I stick to soups and salads and rice, etc... :croiss: :duck:

My biggest fear is to lose my hearing. I'm a social worker and I realised that one of my personal limits is to work with people who can't communicate on a verbal basis (Babies, deaf people). It's not that I don't like those people, but it's very difficult for me to build some empathie. Also without my hearing I couldn't listen/make music and music was part of my life as long as I can remember.

Not so irrational, DJ Drood. I live alone and have choked on my food, but obviously lived to tell about it!

A life without music? Just shoot me now. Imagine how Beethoven must have felt...

Losing my parents is a major fear of mine, and time is drawing nigh. They are both 83 (but probably in better health that I am!) I have no siblings and my cousins are mostly from another planet, so I fear the big void.

I would much rather lose my hearing than my vision, but I'm an artist, so I suppose that's a given.

I don't know if I have a 'biggest fear;' the closest thing I can think of is losing my husband. We are yin/yang, perfect. We always say that we hope we go together in an accident or something. Which sounds morbid, but it's not said that way.

I'm afraid of going blind, I love to read and see new things,i'd rather be deaf. Not much i can do about that though.

I'm also afraid of being judged unlovable and to be alone in old age, I've seen elderly people in the hospital who have no one to visit or care what happens to them it makes me want to cry.

Also afraid of falling from a great height, balconies scare me terribly they give me sweaty palms and shaky legs and i want to run run run from the edge. I plan on skydiving eventually, I figure at the end i'll either be a complete basket case or i'll have gotten over my fear after falling for 10,000 feet.

Goodness, really having to choose between blindness and deafness is something I have talked about a lot with both deaf and blind people and frankly I wouldn't know! I have been half deaf all my life and every once in a while my "good" ear starts to sound as if it were full of water and at that moment really I start to get a picture of what it might be like.... not having all the impulses of what goes on around you, not being able to communicate like the other people around you... you get very isolated that way, if you are not able to read lips well. I already followed lessons in signlanguage, just in case. But my ear still works and as long as it works I do not want to think about it and will not be frightened.

What it must be like to be blind... I cannot imagine it. Where one thing greatly hampers you in communicating with people around you, the other makes your movements very unsure... what would be the best, or the worst of the two??

Oh, yeah -- that's a major one! I have failed at several relationships and at this age, have decided that they are just beyond me this lifetime. I don't know if I'm actually afraid of them; it's more like something I just can't do. Like learning Russian or something.
