The Hundreth Monkey Phenomenon.
There is a legend I would like to tell you about. In its message may lie our only hope of a future for our species...
Here is the story of the Hundredth Monkey.
The Japanese monkey Macaca fuscata, has been observed in the wild for a period of over 30 years. In 1952, on the island Koshima scientists were providing monkeys with sweet potatoes dropped in the sand. The monkey liked the taste of the sweet potatoes, but they found the dirt unpleasant. An 18 month old female named Imo found she could solve the problem by washing the potatoes in a nearby stream. She taught her trick to her mother. Her playmates also learned this new way and they taught their mothers too.This cultural innovation was gradually picked up by various monkeys before the eyes of the scientists.
Between 1952 and 1958, all the young monkeys learned to wash the sandy sweet potatoes to make them more palatable. Only the adults who immitated their children learned this social improvement. Other adults kept eating the dirty sweet potatoes.
Then something starling took place. In the Autumn of 1958, a certain number of Koshima monkeys were washing sweet potatoes, the exact number of monkeys is unknown.
Let us suppose that when the sun rose one morning there were 99 monkeys on Koshima Island who had learned to wash their sweet potatoes. Let us further suppose that later that morning, the hundredth monkey learned to wash pòtatoes.
Then What Happened...!
By that evening almost everyone in the tribe was washing sweet potatoes before eating them...!
The added energy of this hundredth monkey somehow created an ideological breakthrough...!
But the most suprising thing observed by these scientists was that the habit of washing sweet potatoes then jumped over sea – colonies of Macaca monkeys on other islands and the mainland troop of monkeys at Takasakiyama began washing their sweet potatoes.
Thus when a certain critical number achieves an awareness may be communicated from mind to mind. Although the exact number may vary, the Hundredth monkey Phenoninon means that when only a limited number know a new way, it may remain the conscious property of these people.
But there is a point at which if only one more person tunes in to a new awareness, a field is strenghened so that this awareness is picked up by almost everyone...!
Your awareness is needed in saving the world and mankind.

The Invitation
It does not interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to Dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It does not interest me me how old you are. I want to know if you will Risk looking like a fool for Love, for your Dream, for the adventure of being alive.
It does not interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine and your own, without moving to hide it or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy, mine and your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstacy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can faithless and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it’s not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from its presence. I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the moon “YES”.
It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after a night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone and do what has to be done.
It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me were or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what stustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truely like the company you keep in the empty moments.

It is traditionally the time to celebrate the harvest and sees the busy preparations for winter.
In the human growth cycle Lughnasadh correspond to the period of mature adulthood when a certain steadyness and responsibility has been established.
