Dishonest or Disingenuous

This Forum is dedicated to the Druidic search for the underlying meaning of life, the unifying nature of our common humanity, and our interconnectedness in the search for truth.
Forum rules
This forum is dedicated to the quest of our common humanity, especially in the exploration of the underlying commonalities of the human condition, the similarities between faith systems and philosophies, and the Druidic search for all that unifies rather than divides. This is a public forum, viewable by guests as well as members, and is cataloged by most search engines.

The term "Common Quest" does not mean that ultimately there is one faith system, or one lowest common denominator. It means that we are all trying to do the same thing: find the meaning of our existence in this common humanity that we share.

Dishonest or Disingenuous

What is the difference?

I know the dictionary definition, but when it comes to the media, politicians, and others who make news happen, the lines between dishonesty and disingenuousness become blurred. In many cases, the ends seem to justify the means and as long as a person votes a certain way, or believes a certain way or acts a certain way, then the dishonesty or disingenuousness are twisted to appear to be a necessary evil or an unintentional consequence, which in itself is a lie to compound the previous dishonesty and disingenuousness.

Am I making any sense here?

Basically, I don't trust what people tell me unless I am given proof that what they are telling me comes from facts and not a political or religious agenda. Is expecting honesty and genuineness from our media and elected officials setting the bar too high? Am I expecting too much here?

I personally refuse to lower my bars. Don't give up on an ideal! Ideals are always worth pursuing, and excellence is always a worthy goal. However, realistically speaking, you may not charge out the front door and find everyone else gallantly holding an equally bright torch. It may be dark outside. :) I'm with you. I want more honesty, more openess, and more integrity in the world. All we have to do is come up with a plan to make that happen. Should be easy.

Any ideas?
