2nd Ovate Forum

Postby Explorer » 11 Aug 2006, 20:52

Perhaps we need a second Ovate forum for the new course, otherwise we don't know which course is meant if a gwers is mentioned. It would be best to name the forum for the new course 'Ovates' and for the old course something like 'Ovates (old course)'. And no unnecissary secrecy please, all Ovates should be able to get in both channels.

Why not just include 'new' or 'revised' or 'old' 'original' when you put the Gwers number in the subject line? Personally I think another forum could be confusing.

That was what I was thinking too. "Gwers 2-New"

Many will have both courses at first so we can review and compare.

Trouble is that we would have to identify the new gwersi as 'new' forever then, because the old posts are also in that forum. That's going to be awkward in time. Newcomers will not understand that the old postings about 'gwers 10' really means 'old gwers 10', that is going to create a lot of confusion.

I wonder how different they really are? I know that the Bardic gwersi are very different yet those that did the old course seem to understand the discussions in Bards.

Does someone have a copy of the old and new Ovate course to compare and assess if the "New" course is different enough to make it confusing to people?

In a quick comparison, there are several differences.any similarities. It's revised so you'd expect changes.

Is it so complicated to have all threads in one forum? As more Ovates are doing the revised course, any threads on the old one will drop to the bottom of the forum. Personally I'd find it more confusing, and a definite nuisance, to have to check out two forums.

We've managed it with two versions of the Bardic course in one Bard forum, so I feel confident we can do it with the Ovate course.

I agree with kat and donata - the bards seem to manage having 2 running courses.
Plus, if we split the ovates section into 2 then that might prevent people from posting about ovateness in general - and we wouldnt want that to happen!!

If people doing the old course were the ones to id their post as 'GwersXX-old' or something it would mean that as they finish and those threads drop out of view the new course would naturally become the default one without needing any special id
