Hi Unikorn,

I just tried to access your So. Pacific forum, because you made it sound interesting. It's a member-only forum - which might explain the seeming lack of interest of folk who don't live in the so. Pacific area!

Blessings,
Donata

Hi Marmaduke,

I'd do that for you if I could. I'm not a moderator for this forum. I think only Kernos, who is the moderator, can do this.(that is, sticky the thread).

Unikorn wrote:As for the hanging out concept - I would have thought that the Grove and Seedgroups forum creates a space for this? In there I have seen people do a shout out for locals people and make connections etc.

Well, the seed groups or grove forum is good for folks to find groups in their area, but at the point where they make contact with a group, this list becomes obsolete as they have established flesh and blood contact.

For our seed group, we all have each others e-mail and/or phone # and can set up time to meet at a rl pub. The Druid's Head becomes a place to seek wider contact.

I know there is a yahoo group called "Canadian Druid Fellowship" that provides some nation wide contact, but I would like to see an OBOD specific forum. I suppose this could be done through Yahoo, but as this board seems to be the crossroads for Order internet communication, it would be nice to see something here.

I relate to Unikorn's comments about having a South Pacific forum as a way to counter-act the Northern hemisphere's dominance. That is why I would like to see a seperate "Canada" forum instead of a unified North America forum, as I think our unique voice and interests would be lost amongst the much larger United States membership. In fact, I'm sure even within the U.S. and Canada there are regional differences that could accomidate seperate forums, but that starts to get administratively complicated.

The sticky idea is a good one as a feeler to see how much interest there is out there.

Yes I like the idea of the multiplicity of voices being given space and the embracing of local knowledges appeals to me :) I have responded to your sticky to ask you to define it a bit in terms of what you envisige this forum being able to provide.

Wonderful discussion you guys - thank you for having it :)

I talked to him about it on the phone earlier and he agrees with the sticky idea for now - we don't want to start creating more forums here. However, as always if people have ideas they want created then its a great idea to come up with a concept and approach Kernos with it and how you would like it achieved.

Sorry I did not see this sooner and thank Marmaduke for bringing it to my attention!

I am essentially under orders not to create new public Forums, as there is a general notion that the board is already too complex and is resembling a Mall of America rather than a British pub.

BTAIM, I have no objections to forming Private, Hidden groups - like Seed Groups - that could be regional or for people with common interests as long as they have at least 2 OBOD members as organizers. Like all Seed Groups, it would be up to the individual groups to decide to include non-OBOD members or not.

See http://www.druidry.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=1959 for an online copy of Treasures of the Tribe -A Guide for OBOD Seed Groups for more information about OBOD Seedgroups.

Alright, thank you. I understand what you mean. One of these days I must join OBOD, LOL. As soon as I get the money. Perhaps I should start saving my pennies for it or something.

Personaly ,I think if we have a "room" for each nation of people that partisipate on this board it would just add to the "us and them" train of thought.

If the admins. add a forum for any particular nation to this board then they would have to add one for all...where would it end?

We are all together on this board ,that is to say, we have a common interest,Druidry.

Hi Don,

I agree with you and this is also my reason for feeling these extra forums aren't necessary, and aren't in the spirit of OBOD.

Hi Donata;
I agree ,in that adding reagional forum's is not in the spirit of the OBOD, we are all interconnected.
this board, as it is,already afords everyone from all over the world the chance to connect with other's, it dosn't matter where we are from.

Peace
Don.

Easy to make such blaise comments when you are in the majority countries eg the UK and USA - its is the rest of us that feel sometimes that we are ignored and the wonderful sacred lores of our lands could be given more voice in another grove just off to the left - not separate, still connected, but just with a different focus

Thats the way I see it.....accomidating different interests does not take away from the whole. If that was the case, maybe we should eliminate all the forums and just have one big discussion room. And I kow the Americans must have specific social , political and cultural issues they would like to discuss amongst themselves. I know I feel no right to make comments about internal U.S. affairs (only when it threatens to spill outside their borders and becomes international)
