Artic sea ice disappearing faster

Postby DJ Droood » 06 Feb 2010, 15:51

Sea ice in Canada’s fragile Arctic is melting faster than anyone expected, the lead investigator in Canada’s largest climate-change study yet said Friday — raising the possibility that the Arctic could, in a worst-case scenario, be ice-free in about three years.

Not sure they really get into the why of it, in this article, and they should.
But, best I can see, we too often only consider the atmosphere, and forget that the ocean plays a much bigger role in climate change.
With the change in ocean currents, the ice will definitely melt fast in places, while other places will see record snow.
Where I am in Virginia, we are getting pounded with snow, yet just 100 miles out, the ocean temp is around 60 and waves are at 30 feet.

This shift will make a lot of climate changes. It may also open up new discoveries, long buried in the ice.
Also possibly, opening up areas to exploration.

Just as real, the climate change will bring floods, draught, and all kind of shifts.
Life as we knew it is about to change. Perhaps it will take our minds off of our petty differences and wake humans up to the real fight for survival.
