USA-Russia and the Arctic

Postby Michael C. Page » 16 Aug 2011, 14:24

Could this be one of the REAL reasons why both the USA and Russian Governments have historically denied global warming?

The motive: Eventual exposure of resources and shipping lanes as icecaps melt:

Seems plausible……..

The Arctic is indeed, the next frontier. Baffin Island is rich in ore deposits, and it is becoming practical to ship it by sea for more months off the year...soon, year round....and there are many players in the Arctic....Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, United States.....

Why deny global warming when you can invest in it?

Or for that matter, do both - At least that's what some Americans have seemed to be doing all along.

I'm afraid I'm not one of those who thinks our "opinion" or "belief" or political stance on global warming makes a hoot of difference I find the whole discussion boring and pointless...it is like arguing with someone who thinks the earth is flat and their political candidate doesn't buy into that hippie roundness conspiracy, dammit! For me, it is more about trying to be adaptable to new realities, as needed, and hoping for ther best.

Very good point DJ,

There does come a time in every issue when, if it seems that the problem shall not be solved by human intervention, that all concerned should refrain from argument and prepare to adjust for the way things shall be. However, the jury does seem to be still out on this issue, so while it is wise to pick your battles, it does not mean that one should readily give up in the face of what seems to be an indestructible inevitability.

All the Best - Mike
