Whole Foods (& others) give in

Postby Twig » 22 Sep 2012, 00:33

I find this to be very disturbing. Living in a large city and not being well enough to grow my own or hobble around the farmers' market, I have no idea how to buy safe food anymore.

I guess it's a rear-guard action - once the Pandora's box of GE is opened it's out there and there was little that WFM could do  All they can do now is try to get compensation.

Is there a way to get produce from the Farmer Market to you - over here in the UK we have Abel and Cole or Riverford that will deliver direct to your door from the organic farmer.

Hey, DaRC -- I've been away from the board so long I hadn't seen your new avatar. Way cool!

That's a great idea. I forgot about those farmers who deliver. The is, in fact, one is in my area. Texas is so obnoxiously huge that it's sometimes hard to find anything close by, but there actually is a place. Thank you for rearranging my gray cells; they needed it.

As far as WF caving in, I know it's just a sign of the times, but the corporate take-over of the world just makes me mad. WF was born 80 miles up the highway from me. I remember when it was a funky little shop with a great selection of local, organic stuff. It's hardly recognizable any more. I need an attitude adjustment; maybe enough people are mad enough to open small, healthy food stores again.

 glad you like the avatar.
My gray cells often need re-arranging too.
The problem with any organisation is retaining their ethics as they grow - the same occured with Innocent Smoothies and also The Body Shop here in the UK. I can't blame them - if I was offered millions by Coca Cola or Loreal - Innocent have, to their credit, retained as much commercial control as they can.
