Ritual song

Postby Lily » 07 Mar 2011, 10:54

I happened on some words that can be sung to the hymn "This is my song"/Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, one of my favorite tear jerkers form the methodist hymnal :old:

Blessing song

O hear our song, o Spirit, God and Goddess
A song of peace for sacred space and time
Bless this our rite, our circle and our working
Peace to the east, the west, we call as one
Peace to the south, the north we call to being
For without peace our work cannot be done.

Sing to the sky, as blue as all the oceans
Sing to the sunlight shining on the trees
Sing to the land, awakening its spirit
A song for peace and awen, hear our call
O hear our song, Goddess and God and Spirit
A song for peace for this land and for all.

We call on east, the hawk in the cool morning
We call the south the fiery chasing stag
We call the west, wise salmon in the waters,
And on the north, dark earth and starry sky,
O hear our song, Goddess and God and Spirit
A song of peace for sacred space and time.

it so happens that it would also work with the melody of "you raise me up" for some more tear-jerking.
bright blessed days, dark sacred nights

Hello Lily

Thank you so very much for publishing these new lyrics. Such depth of meaning. Wonderful.

If anyone would like to sing along, this link is a video of St Paul's Cathedral Choir singing the original words to the beautiful tune by Sibelius:
