Elemental Music/Songs of the Elements

Postby Fiona The Bard » 07 Dec 2011, 18:00

The bardic companion is a great reference for all things related to the elements: animals, symbols and songs. I was intrigued by the idea of elemental music; of there being sounds, in addition to natural ones, that we can listen to to generate feelings of connection to the elements. As I'm meditating on the earth element right now, I decided to make an earth playlist. I've also started creating an air one.

Have any of you also done this? What songs sound like earth, air, fire and water to you?

"Gaia" (earth) playlist:

The Cascades - Fleet Foxes
Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven
Rake - Townes van Zandt
The Poet and the Peasant Overture - Franz von Suppe (taken from the bardic companion)
My Last Days on Earth - Bill Monroe
Fotheringay - Fairport Convention
When Did You Leave Heaven - Big Bill Broonzy
Apple - Califone
Patience - Guns N' Roses
Blue Ridge Mountains - Fleet Foxes
Africa - Habib Koite
Piano Concerto No. 3 in D Minor - Rachmaninov
Howling Light - J Tillman
Hares on the Mountain - Steeleye Span
The Moon of Falling Leaves - Harrison Edwards
Feuilles-O - Simon & Garfunkel

"Aria" (air) playlist (so far):

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
Cherry Blossom Girl - Air
Spring from the Four Seasons - Vivaldi
Fly Me Away - Goldfrapp
Flute Concerto No. 3 in D Major - Vivaldi
Morning Prayer/Sweet Dreams/Neapolitan Song
Concerto for Two Violins - Bach

(I hope this is in the right forum, by the way. It made sense at the time.) 8-)
