So, what's it like out your way? We have not had a photo thread for a while, so how about sharing your landscape this season?

My 14 year old daughter Sarah and I were exploring the forest along Lake Julian ( Asheville North Carolina ) and measured a Holly to 51 feet tall. There is no more a fitting tree for this yuletide time of year!

Butterfly Watcher.

At almost 50 feet tall, this is a sizeable one but the biggest I have seen is 97 feet, located in Congaree National Park SC. It was HUGE!

Greetings all. And a Happy New Year to all the Happy Snappers and DHP'rs.
HE, that is some holly, I never realised that they could grow so big!
BW, shew, that's breathtaking lighting and landscape. I trust you were well wrapped up, if looks chilly.

Here are a few more from adventures this week. First two taken from the ancient sunfort of Grianan an Aileach http://unknownswilly.wordpress.com/

The first suggests three layers of the world. From the underworld through the tunnel entrance to the walls, valley and sky beyond.

The second two both feature the magical Mt Errigal. From a distance (just visible as a bump on the skyline), and from close up.

A 97ft Holly......what sight Hawthorn-Ent,,the one in my garden is a mere 10-12ft. :D

Amazing sunsets on the blog Dathi :) the ancient sunfort of Grianan an Aileach wow . The resting place of The White Horsemen waiting to rise again.
We have no structures like that here.

Under the rolling mist there is an Iron age hillfort, we have a few in the local area. I think the water element is strong in this photo. Snow, frost , mist, the water vapour in the clouds. It was taken earlier in the month, and yes it was rather cold.
