Ghosts of a Former Life

Hello there

Seeing as this is a Multimedia forum, I thought I would share something I created a while ago. (its not particularly cheerful sorry)

This is the first time I have shared this but I think I have found a community that will either “get it” or at least might be able to find some kind of understanding of the mood.

I am a multimedia designer by trade, but this was my first move in to doing something purely for art (and as it turns out as a exorcism of certain demons). This uses Adobe Flash to combine photographs in to video.
This is based around a kind of dark night of the soul I was having, getting lost in work and my masters studies whilst having little or no time for any other pursuits in which I had excelled in former years, such as playing guitar, Aikido, Rally driving and ghost hunting. a time when all pagan and spiritual practices fell by the wayside.
It is supposed to suggest the cyclic and boring nature of an urban lifestyle that due to the common misunderstanding of the meaning of life, has led to materialism and caused a perpetual need to work hard for a pay check that only continues to propagate the need for more "things" to try to fill the empty gap in one’s life.

The music is "Venetian Snares - Öngyilkos Vasárnap" a remix of the classic "Gloomy Sunday" Billie Holiday.

Am I right that your "ghosts of a former life" are the positive elements and not the demons that you want to exorcise?
Remember that demons are mainly a state-of-mind, which can be altered. Wanna try some magic? Add a touch of colour in some parts of those black/white scenes (like a plant or a tree), and see how that influences your life. And then keep adding more colour to it.

This is a very interesting post, yes the colour parts are the good parts from my former life, the act of making this work actaully did the trick of exorcism to be honest as it allowed me to express my feelings on the subject and then rewatch it and reflect on the situation.

However your idea of turning it in to a work of magic is a very interesting one, I really like that idea! I have moved house and changed jobs since then so I think if I did it now the effects would be minimal, however if I find myself in this situation again i will definitely try this.

And that is half the work to get unstuck already. You've become aware of your situation and you have a sense about changing direction.
If you can add some focus points (colour parts) and intention (really wanting to change things) then the outcome may only depend on the force of the kick-in-the-butt that you can give yourself .

Posting about this on a public forum, or telling your friends and family, might even be enough. Especially if they keep nagging you about your progress .
But what I usually do in such situations is create a ritual, go into the forest, and perform it, and take a reminder home to keep a bit of focus on the intention. The efford that it takes to do that pays off, because it would be such waste of time to do it for nothing that I might as well keep my eyes open for opportunities that go in the direction of my intentions. And before you know it you have magically changed your life (I see magic as rather practical).
