extended spring flowering

Postby wyeuro » 22 Dec 2011, 04:26

we've had an unusually wet summer so far, and the spring flowers are enjoying an extended period of growth. here are some hardy little wild beings, standing in the hard dirt, blooming their hearts out for the good of all beings. if you believe in fairies, try soft-gazing these.

fat, fruit-filled flower heads, a nutritious mouthful for a lizard, bird or marsupial. our goats love them too.

fringe lily - each year leaves an abundance of nutritious bulbs, food for small marsupials and ground pecking birds.

this tiny wild woodbine is 1.5 cm across - the whole plant not 5 cm across - though it can grow quite long in late spring, and cover a metre or so, with lovely pink mauve flowers. it's a valuable gut medicine too.

Beautiful! It's nice to see growing things when my gardens are covered with ice & snow. :)
