Mafdet - goddess of individuals? (egyptian)

Postby Astrid » 12 Jun 2011, 11:44

Okay so today i was looking for a goddess of individuals for a blessing So Mafdet pops into my head as being a protector of individuals - but then i check it in my books and there she is only mentioned as being the protector of Pharaoh... So I rumble through all by things but all i found is a reference in my bardic notes about her stating that she is the protector of individuals and ofcourse I havn't wrtten down where i got it from XD

So i just wanted to ask those who are familiar with her if you ever heard of her as being the protector of individuals or if it just my interpretation

Yes she does look interesting - as a goddess of the execution of justice I can see why you'd associate her with the protection of an individual.
Do you think she had cat, civet or mongoose head?

I associate her with a feline creature mainly because in the book were i first read about her there was a picture of a statue of her found in tutanamon's grave were she is shown ad a black feline creature with nefertiti standing on her back - så i always saw her as a panther - it seemed to fit better than civet or moongoose. :D

Ahh the infamous black cat :)
- considered unlucky in most of the British Isles, although I was taught that they're lucky in Sussex because it was the last place in Britain to be christianised....

I'd never had much to do with Egyptian mythology or deities until my Ovate guide pointed me in the direction of Heqet.
