Sick Baby Cormorant

Today my husband and I visited a Marine Reserve; it was a really terrific experience, since I'd never seen seals in the wild before, nor had I viewed tidal pools.

Contrary to most parks, this place tries to keep quiet in order to avoid too much human traffic, with good reason. The wildlife there is AMAZING. We saw so many pelicans, seals, anemones, crabs, sea snails, cormorants, and so forth that we couldn't keep up with all of it.

When we were on our way up from the beach, we encountered a baby Pelagic cormorant who was acting strangely; not reacting to human proximity at all, just looking around blinking, and shuffling every now and then.

I guessed it was probably ill when I saw it that way; I approached to about 3 feet away, and advised people (mostly kids) not to touch it, it was not feeling well, etc. The poor little thing actually edged up to me and snuggled against my skirt; a lady offered to go and alert the park rangers, and I agreed to stay there like an orange caution cone so people wouldn't fall over the bird (or pounce on him) until they got back. It worked, since people started asking me if he was 'my' bird.

When they arrived, they took over quickly and sure enough, he's almost certainly ill. They put him in a box to take him to a vet. So please send the poor sweet little thing good thoughts/ healing energy/ whatever seems best. Thanks!
