The Singing Bowl

Postby Night Hawk » 30 Oct 2005, 22:13

OMG!!!! I'm a bona fide Singing Bowl lover now!!! I went to a mystic/spiritual shop while away & I asked to see a Singing Bowl. The shop owner showed me two copper ones & played them for me, then he showed me a BEAUTIFUL crystal one...OMG, it was HUGE!!! He played it for me...& the sound & vibration went all through the store!!! OMG!! I could feel it in the floor! The vibration went through ME!! I started to separate from my body, too!!

I think many here have singing bowls. I just bought one today. It has a female voice, alto with a wonderful pitch that sounds like a call to gather. I will use her for cleansing yes, but also for healing. They are indeed special and beautiful,

I have one that I found on Iona when I visited Scotland earlier this year. I took it to a fire festival near my home recently (Note: not a grove gathering, or ritual). There was a lot of chaos, movement, and wild energy going in random expression at a very high volume and frequency. I was with a group of friends and wanted to move towards the fire to make an offering. I had the bowl with me, but really had not considered when or if I would use it that evening. But I brought my copper bowl out of the bag, and started to sing the bowl. My friends quit being loud and chaotic and encircled me. I passed it to one of them, and with no discussion or previous planning each person moved to the center of the group and sang the bowl. It shifted us for the rest of the night into a bond with each other. Everyone loved taking their turn, even though one or two struggled a little to sing with it. One person had never played one, and on the second try found a really high, sweet frequency. It was amazing. Each person created a different tone. After our impromptu bowl ceremony, I moved to the fire circle, made my offering to my recently departed grandmother, and we ran away to explore other adventures for the rest of the evening. The bowl was very cool, and set the mood for the night. Even in a very, loud, out of control frenzy, it had the power to quiet a group, create connection, and be heard. I considered that to be the initiation of the bowl. But I am now moving it into my sacred space, and preparing to try using it for other spiritual journeys. The time and place in which it came to me, the initiation, and the time I spent recently just thinking about the bowl, and how I want to engage with it, all have deep meaning to me. I can tell it is going to be a special part of my practice. I am grateful...

I have a singing bowl from a very nice little shop in Glastonbury that sold a huge range of bowls, from tiny metal bowls to huge quartz crystal bowls that cost more than a new PC!
In the end I walked away with this metal singing bowl:

I sometimes use a singing bowl to cast circle - just walk around as I make the bowl sing . Very special energy! I also like to use the bowl as I"d use smudging - that is, while singing it,I move it up and down the body. It clears the energy beautifully. This is one way to avoid using incense if that bothers anyone with you.

I of course have a singing bowl too, my partner and I (above) bought them at the same time. We have great pleasure on occasions to sit and play them, they compliment each other well, Odonata's being a deep low resonance and with mine being high.

We too like Donata have used the bowls to cast a circle, the energies that they release are very special yes!
