Hello, everyone,

I'm 65, and live in the south-west of Germany. I've lived in Germany for 40 years now, but I'm Irish born and bred - with a short interlude in the Scottish Highlands as a child.
My religious family background is spiritual, evangelical Christianity, and I have a degree in Philosophy. The two came together only recently, when the Green Man pointed out to me that different spiritual paths have more in common than I thought. I've had a look at the OBOD introductory lessons, and intend to embark on the Bardic course.
One thing has not changed - music, especially song, is all-important in my devotion. I like most kinds of music, but I am active in folk music and songwriting.

Blessings,
Jack Greenman

I introduced myself on a thread I made myself, but I thought I'd make it official by posting here! :P

I'm Ashley; I'm 23 years old; I live in Virginia; and I'm just starting out on the path of Druidry. I practiced Wicca for almost 7 years, but it is no longer for me. Suffice to say that OBOD's perspective on Druidry as a philosophy really struck home with me. I am really, really looking forward to embarking on this journey. I ordered my intro pack, and we'll see what happens from there.

Here's my story:
I've been searching for some kind of spiritual path since I was 17, I was hospitalized because of depression. While in hospital I had time to reflect and found out about wicca through a friend. I started to read about it as much as I could and found it really interesting. As a child I loved nature (and still do) so that's why I guess paganism appeals to me. After a while I felt the wicca I wasn't quite exactly what I was looking for. I lost interest for a while even though I went back to wicca several times over the years it just didn't feel right to me. Anyhow I recently took an interest to other paths of paganism like shamanism, odinism, ... Etc until I came across druidry. I think it appeals to me most because of the creative aspects, the animal lore, connection to nature and the mythology. The more I read on other websites the more I felt that this was something I could identify with. Eventually I found the OBOD website and decided to join.

A bit of a long intro, I know.

Nice to meet you all :shake:

My name is Chris, 23, I am an ex-LaVeyan Satanist and I live in Ohio. I have yet to find an OBOD group that I can learn druidry with. I am currently reading the Druid Handbook. I am looking for more OBOD curriculim and writings.

I also live in the United States, so paying for a membership and Bard courses are only in Pounds. I don't know what to do exactly.
RELIGION IS DOING; a man does not merely think his religion or feel it, he lives his religion as much as he is able, otherwise it is not religion but fantasy or philosophy. Whether he likes it or not he shows his attitude towards religion by his actions and he can show his attitude only by his actions. Therefore if his actions are opposed to those which are demanded by a given religion he cannot assert that he belongs to that religion. - GI Gurdjeff

Hi, Chris,

On the OBOD site, when you click "Join," you're taken to a page where you choose your geographical area. Choosing "US and rest of world" takes you here: http://enrol.obod.co.uk/packages.html. Next to each item description is a link that says, "More information." Click that and you see a photo of what is included in each, along with a link to a currency converter. Just click that link, enter in the price in £ and set it to tell you the amount in $.

For example, right now (currency exchange rates tend to vary from day to day), the £18 Intro Pack is US $28.57. The text-only version of the Bardic course, at £215, is US $341.17 if bought all at once. If you pay for it in 4 quarterly payments, each payment of £57 will be about $90.45, and if you opt for the monthly payment plan, the £19 translates to $30.15 each month. (You can use any online currency converter, such as that found at http://www.xe.com/, for amounts that aren't precalculated on the OBOD site.) But this is just to give you an idea of what you're going to pay or to let you know what to make your check for if paying by snail mail. If you use PayPal or a credit card, the conversion is done for you.

Unfortunately, while there are many druid groups in this country, they are rather scattered and I don't know of any active groups in Ohio. While there's no doubt that belonging to a group has a lot of advantages, there are more people who are solitary than in groups. But there are gatherings from time to time where people can get together for a long weekend...and there's always this message board!

Greetings to you all. I am from Lancashire UK and I am 46 :tiphat:

Spiritually, you could say I am somewhat of a latecomer to this path, but I've always had that feeling there was something I simply 'just did not get' about life.
My journey has taken me many years to arrive at this point, and has been shaped by Buddhism and Shamanism helping me see something of the reality of things.

I have felt myself drawn for some time to Druidism and in particular OBOD. which seems to offer a creative, guiding hand within a supportive network, one that dispenses with dogma, and I hope will help guide me through my continuing journey

Hello there everyone!

Very nice to meet you all! My name is Alex, and I just recently turned 18 and live in Oxford, Ohio (USA). I'm currently on my way to the United States Air Force. I'm enlisted, have my job, and all I have to do now is graduate then I leave August 28th for Basic Military Training. My story on finding Druidry is really short. I have only just learned about it 2 months ago, and since then I've been listening to the wonderful podcasts (which help very much!), and doing a bit of reading and research online. I'm not sure when I'll be starting the courses. I didn't want to start them, and then have to go away for 8 and a half weeks then another 2 months for BMT and Tech School training. Plus, my mother is very religious and she completely shuts out anything that isn't Christian, so receiving what she would consider Pagan and evil in the mail would be a bad idea. I'm so glad to be apart of this community and I can't wait to begin my studies in the OBOD course!

I've always searched for a religion that defines me, and until I came to Druidry I was alone. Ever since I was very young, I've had a deep fascination and connection with being in the woods, and surrounded by nature. It's always been my true calling and home.

A crazy little dream of mine is to have a camp, like the Druids have each year for the celebrations, but instead make it a permanent camp. Instead of it being one weekend, it'd be a permanent living society. Living off nature and spending each day without all of the technology and modern advances. It may sound farfetched, but I feel it'd lead to a much happier, spiritual connection with nature and overall a healthy life.
Living for the beauty of all nature, from the greatest tree to the smallest seed.

Hello Alex, :)

Welcome to the OBOD Board. All the very best wishes to you in the forces. You’ll be pleased to know that there are quite a few members who are either in currently or are former members. (I happen to be former Navy).

Anyway, best wishes to you and pop in when you can. :tiphat:

Greetings to all! My name is Jamey, I'm from Tulsa, OK (USA), I am 32 years old, and i'm a wife and mother of 4.
I just received my 1st package in the course today, and I am very excited to start this journey, as it just feels so right! Thank you all.

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty"

Hi everyone,

I'm George, 38, married, living in Indianpolis, Indiana. I started the bardic course last Fall and have enjoyed it along with other books, podcasts, and such. Why druidry? Like most of you here, it simply resonates with me. It calms me, centers me, makes me feel alive, and connected to all the glorious life around me. I am fortunate to have a fantastic wife that supports me in my journey even though she doesn't follow the same path. I've been fairly solitary in my studies up until this point simply because I don't know any others on the druidic path. I hope to change that soon.
