6500-year-old god

Postby Kima » 14 Jul 2010, 08:48

i was walking through the museum
uttering a silent prayer
to all who have come before

i was looking at traces
of lives come and gone how
all moving shapes eventually still

- when in a corner -

there he was
the 6500-year-old god
standing proud and illuminating
the room bathed in his stern gaze

the tall stone is planted among the objects
yet towering over any and every thing
like a dark sky clad in heavy greyness
before rain falls
before rain heals

he looks like God
the One God
the one i've been taught to bow to
he looks like our God
He is god

God carefully watching over
his corner of the museum

god imparting being breathing
particles of matter to the sensible world

This is about the three-ton carved menhir in the Laténium ( http://www.latenium.ch/#latenium3?id=1 )

Tell me what you think!

it's a great poem - wonderful impact. beautifully written. i love the line
all moving shapes eventually still

i also like the simplisticness yet power of
he looks like God
the One God
the one i've been taught to bow to
he looks like our God
He is god

this logic seems so antiquated you might think you took it straight from the times invoked, through the spirit in the statue.
a beautiful poem. :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

Awesome Poem.

Just great!

I had a similar 'experience' when I viewed an actual copy of the Egyptian Book of the dead in a museum.

Imagine what the minds felt and thought back then.

I like it.
Your lines are so simple, direct, and gently powerful.

Thank you for your compliments, I feel honoured and am glad you liked it.
The menhir has a great persence and I tried to evoke that without making
the poem too ornate. Keep it simple as stone :)
