keep on keep on

keep on keep on
said the water to the stone

i shall
said the stone
you keep on too

please do
said the sand
to the water and the stone
i am nothing
after all
without you

--

keep on keep on
said the paper to the pen

i shall
said the pen
you keep on too

please do
said the writer
to the paper and the pen
i am nothing
after all
without you

--

keep on keep on
wrote the writer in the sand

i shall
said the sand
you keep on too

please do
said the water
to the writer and the sand
i am nothing
after all
without you

delightful, well-constructed little poem. is there a tune to it, a dance?

Thank you all. If this stimulates your own voices, then that is the best praise ever!

I'd love to have this set to music, but it has been decades since I have written songs. If anyone wants to set their hand to it, please do.

The simple repetitions of 3 phrases reminded me of the triads, so i decided to try posting it here. The form is well suited to new expressions and I invite you to do so.

-----

just cry, then laugh!
said the goddess to the griever

i will, said the griever
and you laugh, too

please do said the spirit
to the goddess and the griever
after all, i am nothing without you

---

go on, go on
said the spirit to her husband

i will, said the husband
but you must, too

please do, said the goddess
to the spirit and her husband
after all, love is nothing, without you

---

love on, love on
said the goddess to the couple

we will, said the couple
you love us, too

please do, said the old-love
to the couple and the goddess
after all, i am nothing without you

-----

see how easy that is? but, i'm sure y'all can do much better. it's a framework for telling a short, short story or illustrating a moment or an emotion.

You know? I just realized that you could sing this to "Simple Gifts", the Shaker song. It doesn't fit overly well, but you can do it.

Actually, to the following from the Lord of the Dance version...
Dance, dance, wherever you may be
I am the lord of the dance, said he
And I lead you all, wherever you may be
And I lead you all in the dance, said he
