the neighbor

It's hard being a parent to a bi-polar child. And although I would not wish this on anyone else, there are times when I wish that the people around me would just think a little before opening their mouths.

the neighbor
--------------------------
you're up,
then you're down, she said
you must be mentally ill

you're happy
then you're sad, she said
that's not right

and i looked at her and tried
to imagine a life so flat
that anything good or bad
is wrong

and i tried to make her understand
if you're on dry land, i said
and an other is at sea
why do you believe that they
are causing the waves?

but she could not see the sea
could not imagine it
and therefore, i was wrong
for making waves
in nothing
