Newbie Poem writing

Postby day_2k » 19 Dec 2010, 21:59

Hi All

Im very new to druidry, in fact only completed my 1st Gwerse now I have never written any poetry so have no idea how it is "supposed" to be done, but with the snowfall here yesterday I felt inspired and wanting to get fully on the path of the Bard, thought i would offer it up here for some suggestions on how to improve, what poetic feux pas I have managed to hit head on etc.. :)
(please go gentle :) )

So with everyone about me moaning about how inconvienent the recent snow is I thought I would put accross my point of view..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

England Reclaimed

Her blessings come, lightly at first,
few scant symbols of the coming rebirth.
Pure and cleansing,Gently floating toward ground,
for lifes long past, Their memory resound.

Now flurry leads to Storm and soon to tempest,
all usual humdrum then comes to a rest.
Roads become silent, pinnacles of materialism left strewn.
machine clammer cease, industry can't resume

Abandoned and silent the earth takes a rest,
all stay home at the hearth's behest.
Fear concedes to beauty, when necessity allows,
Smoothing wrinkles on fields and furrows on brows.

Turning carpark to glade and city to park,
changing fence posts to grove, bringing light in the dark.
From business park pond to white dusted mere,
a landscape turned back some 200 years.

Pullover'd children, playfull and free,
Even men cannot resist thee.
Pale skinned maidens, rosy of cheek,
for a short while, England returned to its peak

For a while forget work, and let fun begin,
from departmental briefings, to love, kith and kin.
busi-ness to happi-ness, desk to fireside,
and it will stay this way for as long as Snow resides.

----------------------------------------------------------

Thank you

Dave

Thank you for your willingness to share with us. You have a great voice and a really good start on rhythm and imagery. As I read your poem, I sensed a passion that wanted to break free. Don't worry :), it will as you refine your style and learn to trust your voice more and more. I sincerely hope that you continue to use poetry as a creative medium. I am certainly looking forward to what you will write next!
