Academic day

Academic day

As the sun beams into the atrium and the sound of voices echo around the space created by angles, glass and pipes, I get a feeling of peace within the familiar smells and business of the day.
Voices that blend into the walls to echo the history of past present and future pupils coming to hear the praise and fingers crossed, smiles of parents reflecting the sunlight warming the core of the school building.
Pupils , who not so lucky being reprimanded by a discontented mother , shaking her head as the ocean of emotions flow over me and around the room passing onto the next teacher. Wrapping around chair legs over tables as the sun shines into my eyes blinding vision as a shadow is casted.
Another pupil , another parent in a long list yet to be seen , as the evening sun beams across the space that a week ago was in darkness , a new feeling of promise of a summer to follow the spring pulses into every crack the chill of winter disappears in a single beam of warmth and light.
Papers rustle, pens scribe as notes are taken, emails are exchanged. Hand in hand a gesture of respect, a greeting, a well done, a goodbye till next time.
Glancing around the atrium I can see people waiting and pointing who to see next, who to avoid stillness in a single step as a parent approaches with a look of “please only good news” a strained expression a beating heart. The power to raise the confidence and self esteem in a single phrase potential for a life to develop in greatness, a future maker of peace or war can be made here in this moment.
The sun dips lower as the evening sinks into night and on the dawning of the morrow another day of learning begins.

"Voices that blend into the walls to echo the history of past present and future pupils..." It's amazing the energies that walls can hold. I absolutely LOVE the way you descibe things in your writing! It's as if you thought of every little detail in all of it's capacity. Your very perceptive. I also like the part where you wrote "as the ocean of emotions flow over me and around the room passing onto the next teacher." I find your writing very contemplative. :)
The trees reach out as silent witnesses always willing to listen to your troubled heart. Nature offers her ears to anyone who speaks into the omnipotant silence. There are places that wait for you. You are loved....you are wanted....you are cared for. You are not alone.....you are not alone.....you have never been alone.

Hello there,
I have just read your beautiful piece - an Academic Day - I just love the beaming light and warmth (and love) it shines on that parents evening, illuminating and muting uniforms, duty and performance with the power of human relationship.
Thank you.
