Promise / Turn Back The Time

Postby TheWingedShadow » 01 Jun 2011, 14:20

One of my more 'serious' writings, serious meaning that I tried to pay attention to form and rhymes.

Hey sweet boy,
Come on over here.
I don’t need a lover,
I’ve already had my fill
Of shattered hearts and ripped underwear.
Hey sweet boy,
Come on over here,
I could use a brother,
Wipe away those tears.
Call me once and I’ll be there, I swear.

Look I found a record tape,
It’s got a label, don’t you see, it reads ‘life’,
Let’s see what’s on it, here’s the button saying ‘play’.
No wait, I’ve got a better notion, press ‘rewind’,
Turn the time back for ten years, maybe twenty,
It’s never too late for laughter and midnight fires.
Want a basket of berries? Here, we’ve got plenty,
Let’s climb the cherry tree then, I want to see you smile.

Here, take my hand, I want to show you the world,
Follow me down the countryside road.
Lay here beside me, we’ll watch the frogs in the pond,
The larks swirl above us, let’s join in their song.
Got a rope? Look over here, I can make a swing on that tree.
What if it rips? We’ll fall in the river. See, there’s no reason to fear,
I’m sure the waves won’t hurt us. Come on, let’s jump in,
They will bring us down to the forest where some olden magic still lives.

Beware of the mushrooms, look, those fairy rings,
We can dance around them, but hold my hand tight.
There’s no fun in being lost in the Mists, so don’t step in,
I don’t want to lose you to the spirits which rule the night.
Let’s get going, boy, onwards to the glades where the sun
Plays with crystalline shimmering dew drops on grasses and leaves.
Let’s lay down and tell stories of old, ’til the light will be gone.
The evening haze fills the air, and soon the church bells we’ll hear.

Here, take my hand, I will bring you back to the place that we left,
You’ll hold me close in your arms, I’ll lay my hands on your shoulders
You’ll whisper cheerful words in my ears, full with sweet innocence
And I’ll promise you another day full of joy, a day full of wonders.
Yes, I know all these things might never happen to me,
For we live in a world so very cruel, oh so cold
But caught in dark nights and grey days, we still can dream
What would we be without hope, after all?
