Spring thoughts

Postby KeithS » 16 Mar 2012, 12:08

Recently we had a wonderful bright, warm and sunny day and I was able to indulge in my favourite gardening task - sitting in a deckchair with a hot drink!

While sitting there with my sketch pad, the following came to me, and I would like to share it.

Bid welcome to the spring
Snowdrops, crocus, daffodils
The blackbird singing in the hawthorn
As if to urge the buds to grow
All around, green is starting to take over from the subdued hues of winter.

No frogs yet
The pond surface greening with the duckweed
(...and no ducks either)
Disturbed by surfacing water-boatmen
But the frogs will be here when they are ready.

In there a darker side to this?
Of course - there always is.
At the expense of worms, insects, tadpoles; the birds will raise their young
And some of these will in turn feed the cruelty of the cats
But all is as it always has been.

...and just in case anyone is worried - the frogs are now here!
