I'm writing an article on mistletoe, and  in the New Welsh Dictionary by Christopher Davies, it says:

"Uchelwydd. Planhigyn yn tyfu ar goed eraill ac iddo aeron gwyn.”

Could anybody please give me a translation?

Hello Fitheach, (lovely name-what does it mean?),

Here I put literal translations first so you get an idea of what words mean what and how they're put together and then the english translation for you:

Uchelwydd=mistletoe
Planhigyn yn tyfu=plant which grows
ar goed eraill=on trees others
ac iddo aeron gwyn=and with it berries white

So the sentence translates as "Mistletoe.A plant which grows on other trees and has white berries".

Or if you want to be more poetical as in the Welsh version:

"Mistletoe.A plant which grows on other trees and with it berries white".

(Lol-not sure if you're a learner or not,but thought I'd explain in depth for you anyway!)

Sam, thank you!  Welsh is such a lovely language.  There is a wonderful Welsh community here, and I have been to some WASNC (Welch American Society of Northern California) events and heard it spoken several times.  One of these days I'm going to try to learn it!

Yes I agree it's a lovely poetical language-but I'm biased lol.

I find it so amazing that not only are there so many people here learning it and speaking it on this forum but people from all the way in America are interested in learning it!Wait until I get some ignoramus telling me that my language is dead!!!
