Closing Regards

Postby fulbert-avebury » 14 Feb 2011, 04:43

I have been wanting to change the closing I use in emails to better reflect a druidic sensibility without alienating people by being overly in their face. Enough of ending emails and such with "Thank you" or "Best regards;" too trite.

What do others use? Simple blessings or wishes for peace or some such?

in e-mails to non druid/pagans, I keep it plain because i get just as annoyed at evangelical christians or love-and-lighters.... so no better idea than "with my best wishes"

Hmm, trying out a few other closings, and thought one that may be aligned can be "May you journey well." Have to play with that one a bit more.

I use "In peace" drawing upon the Druid's prayer for peace and declaring peace in the four quarters. I like it a lot :)

Hi All

I am having a similar issue, I feel using "standard" sign-offs when writing to druids seem a little cold especially when all are wishing me blessings and wishes and other lovely things..

Now, it's not that I don't think of my self as a nice guy and I often wish people well, but offering blessings from me seem a bit empty.. Can I really bless someone? and offering a god or goddess' blessings seems a bit presumptious (even if I did belive in them being sentient, which I am workign on but still find it hard).

On top of all that, and I really really mean no disrespect, the normal sign-offs I recieve would not sound right coming from me. I feel i would like one with a little more edge but without going all 'goth'! to me I am staunchly centred between the day and the night in terms of my beliefs and my emotions so I was considering "Twilight Wishes" but unfortunately a certain awful movie series this sounds really 'High School'. (yes I know it was based on books, these I have not read so I have no opinion on their quality.)

I like the word Crepuscular but I am aware that something like "Crepuscular blessings" sounds a bit like a blessing from a leper or something!

Any ideas?

Sorry.. this seems to have turned in to a mini-rant/waffle!( Waiting for my computer to encode videos seems to make me a little garrulous)

Yours, slave to a rendering PC

"Crepuscular" refers to both sunrise and sunset, so:

"Many sunrises and sunsets (or vice versa)" might work too.
May the long time sun shine upon you,
All love surround you,
And the pure light within you,
Guide your way on.

How about speaking genuinely from the heart to each individual you correspond with?

My closing is typically "Blessings", which works for everyone I might correspond with, though I tend to personalize it depending on who I am writing to, what season of the year it is, and the reason I'm writing.

I use various. If it's in a business context use "kind regards". If it's a non-pagan friend I say "be well". Af it's a pagan friend I use either a plain "blessings" or I might embelish. Examples could be "blessings of the wild seas" or "blessings of the returning light".

Like any writing, it is important to be audience specific. Would you say it to them in person? If not, don't.

Blessings of the mists that kiss your face in the darkness, :)
